Role Purpose

The intern will support the research effort to build fundamental understanding of the impact of micro-deformations on the optical properties of micro-structured optical fibers. The intern will devise a modeling approach for evaluation of fiber optical performance, will implement and verify the models using optical modeling software, and will carry out simulations to generate model data for fibers under the test. The intern will be responsible for interpretation of the modeling results and making conclusions based on data. A presentation and a final technical report are expected at the end of the appointment.

Program Perks:

  • Competitive salaries

  • Assistance with housing and travel

  • Meaningful project and final project presentation

Intern Activities:

  • Social and networking opportunities

  • Weekly tech talks

  • Community involvement

Key Responsibilities

The intern will review the relevant prior work and will contribute to a research plan to implement and apply an optical model to evaluate the impact of micro-deformations on the optical properties of micro-structured optical fibers.

  • Learn new techniques and methods as needed to support the project objectives

  • Work with scientists to plan and carry out required steps to progress against project objectives

  • Support model implementation, carry simulations, document, summarize and communicate data

  • Analyze the data and provide recommendations to the team

  • Document the results of the research in a report and present to the team and stakeholders
