Hiring range: $74,214 to $103,896 annually ($35.68 to $49.95 per hour). Starting rate will depend on experience, education, and qualifications. Advancement opportunities exist for individuals motivated to move up within Anoka County.

Position Description

The Anoka County Community Social Services and Behavioral Health department is committed to meeting people's needs through quality services, and the Social Worker plays a key role in fulfilling this mission. This position provides assessment, case planning, support, and resources to individuals and families to help address challenges and enhance overall well-being.

Key responsibilities include investigating allegations of maltreatment involving vulnerable adults, assessing needs and strengths to develop safety plans, and providing crisis intervention and advocacy. The Social Worker builds rapport with clients and their support networks, maintains accurate case documentation, coordinates services and referrals, and collaborates with the County Attorney's Office, law enforcement, and other community partners. The role also attends and participates in court hearings as required.

This is a full-time, exempt, hybrid position. Interviews will take place starting the week of October 19th, 2026 for those selected to move forward in the hiring process.

Pay & Benefits

Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade 34: $74,214 to $103,896 annually ($35.68 to $49.95 per hour).

Work Location

This position will work at the Anoka County Government Center, located at 2100 3rd Ave, Anoka, MN 55303.

This position may be eligible for flexible work arrangements, including hybrid work, with some days working remotely and some days working in the office.

Expected work hours are Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

These examples are not all inclusive and are intended to be illustrative of primary responsibilities of an Anoka County Social Worker.

Investigate allegations of maltreatment of adults who are vulnerable and provide protective interventions when necessary.

Assess clients' safety, needs, strengths, and support networks to jointly develop safety plans.

Spend significant time in the field conducting visits to homes, law enforcement agencies, medical facilities, financial institutions, and other locations as needed.

Build rapport with clients and their support networks.

Provide crisis intervention.

Help clients adjust to changes and challenges in their lives.

Advocate or raise awareness with and on behalf of their clients.

Maintain case files and records.

Provide referrals to service providers and coordinate services for vulnerable adults and their support networks.

Consult with the Anoka County Attorney's Office and local law enforcement agencies.

Attend and participate in court hearings.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed

Requires a bachelor's degree in human services, nursing, social work, psychology or closely related field and at least two years of job-related experience.

In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Must have valid driver's license and vehicle available for business use.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed

Master's degree or higher in human services, nursing, social work, psychology, or a closely related field.

Three years or more (2,080 annual hours) of job-related experience working with vulnerable adults and/or individuals that are affected by issues including neglect, domestic violence, disability, mental health, homelessness, and financial insecurities.

Experience working with protective services.

Experience working within SSIS database.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Skilled in problem-solving, critical thinking and effective time management.

Physical Demands and Work Conditions

Standard office environment.

Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus, such as to work on computers. Ability to see colors, shades, and brightness.

Hearing abilities required for general and phone communication, signals, and machine sounds.

Assignments are sedentary, occasionally alternating between sitting, standing, walking, crouching, and kneeling as required to perform job responsibilities. Frequent wrist and finger manipulation to complete computer work.

Occasional lifting of 10-20 lbs.

Equipment used includes computers, phones, and standard office equipment.

Occasional travel to other county work sites as needed. Travel between work sites may require driving a county vehicle and/or a personal vehicle.
