About this position

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing compassionate quality care that is customer and family focused. The RN assesses, diagnoses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents care of customers according to hospital and care center policies and standards of professional nursing practices. The RN is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered. The RN defines, implements, and improves practice standards and environment of care while promoting exceptional customer care. Duties may vary based on the assigned customer care center which may include differences in the required specific clinical skills. Actively and consistently demonstrates the mission, vision, values and guiding principles of Maple Grove Hospital.

  • Completes pre-op assessment and checklist.

  • Administers IV insertions and maintenance.

  • Performs pre-op skin prep, including nasal antiseptic swabs for total joints.

  • Notifies anesthesia with abnormal/unexpected results and findings pre and post op.

  • Notifies surgeon with surgery specific concerns and results.

  • Administers medications per policy, experience with drips.

  • Manages airway and respiratory status. Notifies RT for additional support as needed.

  • Central line setup and monitoring.

  • Monitors patient’s recovery from anesthesia (general, MAC, and spinal) and procedural

sedations.

  • Administers and monitors procedural sedation per policy in endoscopy and IR.

  • Assists Anesthesiologist as needed with insertion of lines and procedures.

  • Coordinates admissions with inpatient departments.

  • Assesses SDS customer’s readiness for discharge according to policy.

  • Provides on-going customer’s education with customers and visitors.

  • Uses customer lift/assistive devices as needed per Safe Patient Handling Policy.

  • Activates and assists with emergency codes per policy.

  • Assists with cardioversion and TEE in PACU.

  • Assists with endoscopic procedures.

  • Interprets cardiac rhythms.

  • Provides care to C-section customers that underwent general anesthesia.

  • Assists with pediatric procedures requiring sedation in PACU with Peds RN.

  • Pre-op, PACU, and Post-op care of pediatric customer’s ages 4 years old and above.

  • Provides customer/support person education per MD instructions and MGH standards.

Requirements

Education

Associate's degree in nursing; bachelor's degree in nursing preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of one year of Adult Hospital Critical Care RN experience required.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain composure in high stress situations, acts quickly in response to critical situations. Solid PC skills to include MS applications, Internet, etc.

  • Strong communication skills with demonstrated ability to express ideas and information (both in written and oral form), clearly and concisely in a manner appropriate to the audience.

  • Demonstrated ability to deal with conflict in a positive manner. Has an awareness of, responds to, and considers the needs, feelings and capabilities of others.

  • Ability to be accountable for quality customer service and respond appropriately to a variety of personalities and situations.

  • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and infection control standards.

  • Must be able to read, write and speak effectively in English.

Licensure/Certification

  • Current licensure and registration as an RN in the State of MN. Current BLS certification for all areas of nursing practice required.

  • Current certification required for the following areas of nursing practice:

  • Emergency Care Center – ACLS, TNCC, PALS

  • Intensive Care Center & MSCC Lead – ACLS

  • L&D – NRP, AWHONN's Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring Course (one time only) - Experienced L&D nurses will obtain within 6 months and new L&D nurses will obtain at 1 year of experience

  • NICU– NRP, STABLE (one time)

  • PCC/PACU/ENDO – ACLS, PALS

Salary Range: MG RN A/B/M ($44.69 - $74.32), based on experience
