Sewer Maintenance Crew Leader A leadership role responsible for supervising sewer maintenance crews and ensuring the efficient cleaning and maintenance of sewer systems that serve our community. The Department of Water Environment Protection (WEP) delivers Wastewater treatment services that protect public health and local waterways across Onondaga County, supported by a skilled and dedicated workforce. WHAT EXACTLY DOES A SEWER MAINTENANCE CREW LEADER DO? The work involves responsibility for the work of a crew of Sewer Maintenance Workers and Laborers engaged in the cleaning and maintenance of the sewer system. Under general supervision, an employee in this class performs supervisory work involving responsibility for ensuring that sewer cleaning and maintenance work are performed in an efficient manner, on schedule and according to approved procedures. Duties Include: Supervises the activities of a crew or crews in the cleaning and maintenance of sewers, catch basins, wastewater and/or stormwater collection systems. Supervises the removal of tree roots, dirt and debris, which block free sewer flow. May supervise activities of television inspection and internal grouting crews. Answers emergency calls on a 24-hour basis. Supervises the cleaning of house laterals by mechanical or electrical means. Keeps records and makes reports. May aid in classroom and on-the-job training of sewer maintenance personnel. PREFERRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Promotion: Two (2) years of permanent non-competitive class status as a Sewer Maintenance Worker 2. Open Competitive: Three (3) years of work experience, or its part time equivalent, in the maintenance and cleaning of storm and/or sanitary sewer systems. SPECIAL NECESSARY REQUIREMENT When required to operate motor vehicles, employees must possess a valid non-CDL or CDL with appropriate endorsements as required by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles for the class of the vehicle(s) being operated. ANNUAL SALARY $62,715 - $69,188 CIVIL SERVICE GRADE CSEA/10 POSITION TYPE NYS HELP Program This is a Hiring Emergency Limited Placement (HELP) Program appointment.
