Job Description

One of Insight Global's clients is seeking an experienced SolarWinds Administrator to own the administration, configuration, and continuous optimization of our enterprise monitoring environment. You will serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for the platform, ensuring high availability, minimizing false-positive alerts, and providing actionable visibility to engineering, security, and operations teams.

Key Responsibilities

Platform Management: Own administration, health checks, security hardening, backups, and routine/major upgrades of the SolarWinds Orion/Enterprise platform. Module & Poller Support: Configure and maintain core modules (e.g., NPM, SAM, NCM, NTA, IPAM, SCM) and Additional Polling Engines (APEs). Alert & Dashboard Tuning: Build custom dashboards, executive views, and granular alert/threshold rules to reduce noise and isolate genuine incidents. Infrastructure & Network Oversight: Monitor network, server (Windows/Linux), virtualization, and cloud performance. Troubleshoot telemetry gaps. Automation & Integration: Write/maintain scripts (PowerShell, Python, or Ansible) to automate data gathering, remediation, or ITSM/ticketing integrations (e.g., ServiceNow, Jira). Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with NOC, security, and network/sysadmin teams during incident response, capacity planning, and root-cause analysis (RCA). Audits & Documentation: Maintain accurate topology/monitoring maps and support compliance or security audits.

Skills and Requirements

Experience: 2 - 5 years of dedicated experience administering SolarWinds in an enterprise production environment.

Technical Stack: Strong grasp of monitoring/management protocols: SNMP, WMI, ICMP, REST APIs, Syslog, NetFlow. Working knowledge of Windows Server and Linux OS administration. Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, routing/switching, firewalls). Scripting: Basic-to-intermediate scripting/automation via PowerShell or Python. Problem-Solving: Strong analytical mindset with an eye for alert-noise reduction and data hygiene. Certifications: SolarWinds Certified Professional (SCP), or relevant network/cloud/OS certs (Cisco, Microsoft, VMware). Integrations: Experience tying SolarWinds into ITSM or log-aggregation tools (ServiceNow, Splunk). Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or equivalent hands-on industry experience.
