Full job description
Description
Amazon's Worldwide Environmental Assurance and Protection (EAP) team is responsible for ensuring that Amazon's global operation is the benchmark for environmental excellence across all similar industries. EAP transforms environmental regulatory compliance into a zero-defect process through simple, scalable, and sustainable solutions that protect the business, our communities, and the environment.
The Risk Specialist I drives regulated waste compliance across the 2-4 sites they support. This specialist executes the organization's environmental compliance plans at the site level, tracks waste compliance obligations to closure, and partners with site and operations teams to meet compliance milestones. They conduct site inspections, maintain hazardous waste accumulation and manifesting records, and surface gaps through regular program controls.
The ideal candidate brings working knowledge of regulated waste requirements, including RCRA, DOT, and applicable state hazardous waste rules. They communicate technical compliance requirements clearly to site leaders, operations partners, and legal stakeholders, and use data to find gaps, prioritize fixes, and improve conformance across their sites.
This role requires sound independent judgment, comfort with ambiguity, and the ability to run the right mechanisms and manage competing priorities to meet compliance objectives in a dynamic, high-pace operations environment. If you are motivated by solving regulatory compliance problems in the field, this role is for you.
Key job responsibilities
-
Own the execution and delivery of regulated waste compliance projects and activities, including developing standard operating procedures, workflows, and inspection routines, to mitigate identified risks across the sites you support.
-
Apply risk management methods such as waste compliance audits and site inspections to monitor compliance thresholds, test controls, and take corrective action when findings arise.
-
Collaborate with site teams, compliance operations, and operations partners to understand business needs, clarify waste compliance requirements, and drive productive discussions that build consensus.
-
Identify process improvement opportunities and work with process owners to improve conformance, reduce risk, and increase operational efficiency.
-
Prepare clear and concise documentation, including status reports, audit results, metrics, and project communications, so the right information reaches the right audience at the right time.
-
Travel expected up to 50% of the time.
A day in the life
Your morning might begin by reviewing incoming risk-related requests and prioritizing your project tasks. You will spend time conducting audits or risk assessments, updating documentation, and coordinating with compliance operations and partner teams. Throughout the day, you will track project milestones, resolve roadblocks, and communicate progress to stakeholders. You will also look for ways to streamline existing processes and ensure your risk area stays aligned with current regulations and team objectives.
About the team
Our team is dedicated to protecting Amazon's customers and business by proactively managing risk across a broad range of areas, from regulatory compliance to operational resilience. We work closely with legal, operations, and business partners to deliver practical risk solutions and build a strong culture of compliance. We value collaboration, continuous learning, and creative problem-solving, and we are committed to building an inclusive environment where every team member can grow and make an impact.
Basic Qualifications

-
Experience collecting and analyzing data to identify compliance gaps and drive corrective actions
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience with Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel
-
4+ years of compliance program management, legal, governance, audit, risk/loss prevention, or equivalent experience
-
Experience managing a regulated waste program across multiple sites, including hazardous waste accumulation, manifesting, and disposal
-
