Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will conduct air, water, and surface radiation surveys in shipyard areas. You will check out deviations from normal or anticipated radiation levels. You will implement radiological control (RADCON) procedures related to the storage, local transportation, and treatment of small volumes of nuclear waste. You will monitor the storage and transportation of contaminated equipment. You will identify conditions which affect the determination of actions necessary to contain and control radiation. You will ensure adherence to RADCON requirements. You will recommend changes to work plans and trades procedures to improve radiological controls, correct deficiencies, increase efficiency, minimize exposure and prevent incidents. Security clearance required: Secret
Education In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience: FOR THE GS-04: Successful completion of two years of education above the high school level that included at least 12 semester hours in any combination of courses such as physical science, engineering, or any branch of mathematics, except financial and commercial mathematics. FOR THE GS-05: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of physical science, or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as physical science, engineering, or any branch of mathematics, except financial and commercial mathematics OR a combination of post high school education and specialized experience that equates to one year of experience. FOR THE GS-07: Successful completion of one year of graduate education that is directly related to the job being filled OR a combination of graduate education and specialized experience that equates to one year. FOR THE GS-09: Successful completion of two full years of graduate education or a master's degree that is directly related to the job being filled OR a combination of graduate education and specialized experience that equates to one year.
