Job Description

The Education Specialist delivers engaging and mission-aligned information about Louisville Water to the community. This position supports day-to-day operations at the WaterWorks Museum at Louisville Water Tower with field trips and group tours and represents Louisville Water at education and outreach events throughout the community.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Museum Education & Visitor Experience

Facilitate engaging, age-appropriate walking tours (approx. 1 hour in length) for students, adults, and mixed groups.

Deliver firsthand activities and educational programming, including field trips and special themed museum open days.

Communicate Louisville Water's history and mission clearly, creatively, and confidently to diverse audiences.

Serve as on-site point-of-contact during museum open days and events, ensuring a welcoming, accessible, and safe environment.

Assist with planning and executing public and private events at the WaterWorks Museum

Provide setup and teardown support for education programs and events.

Community Education

Represent Louisville Water at community events, delivering education experiences to c hildren and adults. Set-up displays

and educational activities. Collaborate cross-departmentally to support mission-driven events.

Administrative & Operational Support

Oversee front desk responsibilities at the WaterWorks Museum, including admissions, customer service, and point-of-sale.

Open and close the site, maintain guest records, and follow safety and emergency procedures.

Assist with general office tasks: data entry, spreadsheet management, contract tracking, and correspondence.

Collaborate with team members for marketing the Louisville Water Tower and WaterWorks Museum.

Contributes to the database for community education events, coordinating with other department members to track programming and evaluations.

Experience with public speaking. Experience in museums, classrooms, or educational facilities, Experience with CRM platforms.

Proficient in Microsoft programs and technology.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Full Time work 40 hours per week. Weekly work schedule will fluctuate based upon programs, some evenings and weekends will be required to fulfill job duties.

Workplace is at a historic site, with indoor and outdoor settings and in the community at indoor and outdoor settings.

Travel will be required to community organizations, other company locations, etc.

Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time, which includes steps, uneven pavement, inclines, both grass and paved surfaces, in indoor and outdoor environments for most of the routine workday.

Must be able to lift, carry, and/or move the maximum equivalent of 20 lbs.

Physical flexibility and range of motion to complete a deep-kneed bend, full-waist bend, and overhead reach.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or equivalent; and

At least one (1) to seven (7) years of related experience in museums, classrooms, or educational facilities.
