Full job description

About Elveo Elveo is what happens when two pioneers in direct-to-device (D2D) communications join forces. Elveo brings together a combined 20 years of expertise to close the coverage gap for more than 50 mobile network operators (MNOs) and major distribution partners operating in 60+ countries worldwide. That heritage and our technology powers what we call ‘elevated intelligence’ — a new approach that processes and adapts on orbit, delivering voice and data services straight to mobile users, IoT devices and machines across enterprise, government and humanitarian sectors worldwide. As a team, we’re on a mission to deliver powerful compute and connectivity directly to individuals and objects everywhere on Earth. Join us, and become part of a globally inclusive company that is transforming satellite communications from a niche service to an essential global infrastructure, and democratizing connectivity for billions worldwide. Ready to take the next step? Join us.

Job Summary As an Electrical Engineer at Elveo, you will function in many roles to use and expand your knowledge of electronics and PCB design. You will be given ownership of your project through the complete hardware development cycle. Along the way you will be responsible for circuit design, schematic capture, and layout of complex PCBAs. These boards often contain some combination of high-speed digital signals, high power DC-DC converters, and analog circuitry. You will also be collaborating with RF engineers in the design of boards containing RF circuitry.

We are a small team, and emphasize rapid iteration as part of our hardware development lifecycle. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in an interdisciplinary team, engaging in system-level design discussions, and taking ownership of individual subsystems as an individual contributor. Candidates should also have experience or interest across a wide breadth of electronics disciplines, and should be comfortable working in both a design and laboratory environment, and have experience designing systems intended for harsh environments.

Experience with satellites is not a requirement for this position. We welcome candidates across experience levels, from exceptional early career to seasoned engineers; title, scope, and compensation scale with experience.

Core Responsibilities

  • Designing multilayer PCBAs, incorporating EMI/EMC best practices and considering deployment in harsh environments (thermal cycles, mechanical shock, vibration, etc.).

  • Ownership over the complete lifecycle PCB multi-layer design from schematic capture and layout through board bring-up and test

  • Develop and analyze complex power trees.

  • Collaborate closely with RTL and software teams to define pinouts, bank voltages, and clocking architectures that optimize PCB routing.

  • Collaborate closely with mechanical teams on PCB enclosure and thermal design

Basic Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical or Computer Engineering

  • Strong grasp of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Test (DFT) in low-to-medium volume, high-complexity production.

  • Experience with multilayer PCB schematic capture and layout, as well as board bring-up and testing

  • Experience designing systems for harsh environments (space, aviation, automotive, etc.)

  • Experience with common low speed digital interfaces (I2C, CAN, UART, etc.)

  • Experience with EMI/EMC best practices

  • Basic experience writing FPGA RTL or microcontroller firmware

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of FPGA and SoC hardware requirements, including power distribution, high-speed SERDES routing (PCIe, multi-gigabit ethernet, etc.), memory interfaces, etc.

  • Basic understanding of RF circuits and RF PCB layout

  • Experience working in a startup or small team environment

  • Experience designing spacecraft avionics systems

  • Advanced experience writing FPGA RTL or microcontroller firmware

ITAR Requirements: To comply with U.S. Government export control regulations (ITAR), applicants must be one of the following: (i) a U.S. citizen or national, (ii) a lawful permanent resident (green card holder), (iii) a refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) an asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158. Individuals who do not meet these criteria must be eligible to obtain the necessary authorizations from the U.S. Department of State. For more information, please refer to the ITAR guidelines.
