What are we looking for?

We are looking to add a Residential Support Specialist to our team. As a Support Specialist you will provide support to individuals with disabilities in developing and/or maintaining skills that will enhance the quality of their lives in the community; assist with personal care, household tasks and daily routines; perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Your overall essential responsibilities will be the following:

  • Observe and respond to individuals’ physical, social, behavioral and personal needs.

  • Provide adequate supervision for individuals to facilitate their health and safety.

  • Will:

  • Be fully trained on individuals’ Individual Support Plan (ISP) and any special plans or therapy.

  • Be fully trained in the individuals’ Behavior Support Plan (BSP) and report to supervisor as required for incidents.

  • Implement and document daily the training outcomes and action steps in the ISP as required during the time the support was delivered.

  • Administer medication to individuals; ensure that administration is timely, in the right dosage and documented on the Medication Administration Record (MAR) as required.

  • Transport individuals to and from appointments, employment and/or community sites.

  • Ensure individuals are appropriately groomed for all activities, employment and appointments,

  • Assist with the planning and implementation of daily activities.

  • Prepare meals or assist with the preparation of meals in accordance with Individual Support Plan and any diet orders, adaptive equipment or mealtime plans.

  • Assist with the daily household chores, to include but not limited to laundry, meal preparation and cleaning.

  • Attend and participate in all relevant agency events, workshops, training and meetings; and

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Secondary Functions:

  • Assist with medical appointments.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to gain working knowledge of St. John’s Community Services policies and procedures.

  • Ability to act as a representative of St. John’s Community Services to the public.

  • Ability to effectively communicate and coordinate with other staff members and individuals from diverse backgrounds.

  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.

  • Knowledge of acceptable food preparation and safety practices and procedures; and

  • Skilled in the operation of relevant computer systems, including hardware and software, and office machines.

You will catch our eye if you have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred

  • Two or more years’ experience working with people with disabilities preferred.

  • Experience in community based residential programs a plus.

All SJCS employees must:

  • Obtain a valid health certificate to meet SJCS or current funding authority requirements as required.

  • Meet SJCS and the funding authority requirement of criminal background and record checks.

  • Valid state-issued driver's license with current driver's record in good standing

  • Work environment involves risks or discomforts, which require special safety precautions e.g. safely operating a motor vehicle, exposure to aggressive human behavior.
