Why Starbridge

At Starbridge, we partner with people with disabilities, their families, and the people who support them to build communities where everyone belongs. We are For the Hope and the How: the hope that life can change for the better, and the know-how to make it happen.

As a Pre-Vocational Counselor at Starbridge, you’ll support people with disabilities in building skills, confidence, and experiences that help them achieve their employment and personal goals. You’ll provide individualized, person-centered support, develop meaningful skill-building opportunities, and connect people with community resources and experiences. Your work will help individuals increase independence, explore their interests, and take meaningful steps toward greater participation in their communities and the workforce.

What You'll Do

  • Partner with individuals to develop meaningful goals for their Staff Action Plan, based on their interests, strengths, progress, and personal goals.

  • Provide individualized training, instruction, and support based on each person’s learning style, needs, and goals.

  • Support individuals in building skills, confidence, independence, and meaningful connections within community-based settings.

  • Communicate individual progress, accomplishments, concerns, and support needs with the Pre-Vocational Coordinator and interdisciplinary team.

  • Attend Life Plan Meetings and team meetings and actively contribute to planning and coordination of services.

  • Create an inclusive, positive environment that promotes trust, collaboration, diversity, belonging, and person-centered support.

  • Complete required documentation accurately and on time, follow OPWDD and Corporate Compliance requirements, report incidents and unusual circumstances, and maintain required training.

What You'll Bring

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s Degree preferred.

  • At least one year of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive, respectful relationships.

  • Ability to work independently, manage responsibilities effectively, and collaborate as part of a team.

  • Creative problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to adapt support to individual needs and learning styles.

  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google applications, and other standard office technology.

  • Valid New York State driver’s license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel throughout Monroe County and surrounding counties; ability to work a flexible schedule and, when required, transport individuals in a personal vehicle.

Why You'll Love Working Here

  • Generous paid time off that grows with your years of service.

  • Employer-paid life insurance worth two times your salary.

  • Health, dental, and vision coverage, with Starbridge helping cover the cost.

  • A retirement plan you can start right away, with a 4% Starbridge match after one year.

  • Opportunities to lead meaningful initiatives that strengthen families and communities across New York State.

  • A collaborative leadership team committed to innovation, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
