Job Title: Veteran Directed Care Attendant (VDC Program)

Status: Part Time

Reports To: Individual Veteran/Authorized Representative

Purpose: A VDC Care Attendant is hired to assist an elderly and/or disabled veteran to maintain quality of life in their home and is tasked with a wide range of care needs for each veteran. Each task will be specific to the veteran’s needs and directed by the veteran or their authorized representative.

Essential Functions:

The goal is to assist elderly/disabled veterans in completing daily living activities such as:

  • Grooming & Hygiene 6. Mobility/Transfers

  • Dressing 7. Toileting

  • Wellness Activities 8. Community Errands

  • Cooking & Housekeeping 9. Health Maintenance

  • Community Socialization 10. Lawn care/Snow Shoveling

VDC Care Attendants are expected to:

  • Complete tasks in a responsible, prompt, and courteous manner.

  • Maintain confidentiality and do not discuss veteran issues with anyone else.

  • Report to work on time and respect the veteran’s home, possessions, lifestyle, and individual choices.

  • Utilize Medisked for all timekeeping.

  • Request time off in advance, providing the consumer with a two-week notice before vacations, appointments, etc. This will allow time for the veteran to find alternate care.

  • In the case of an illness or emergency, call your veteran as soon as possible, but absolutely no later than one hour before work.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Be at least 18 years of age and have a social security number.

  • Perform tasks as stated on the individual care plan.

  • Be willing and able to pass a background check.

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

  • Able to lift 50 lbs.

  • Perform the functions discussed with the veteran at the interview.
