Full job description
You will serve as a SUPERVISORY SHIP PROGRESSMAN (GENERAL) in the PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PEARL HARBOR NAVAL SHIPYARD & IMF within the DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE. Applicants must meet the requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualification Handbook for Trades and Labor Occupations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will plan the use of subordinate worker's equipment, facilities, and materials on a week-to-week or month- to month basis. You will establish deadlines, priorities, and work sequences; and plan work assignments based on general work schedules, methods, and policies set by higher level supervisors. You will coordinate work with supporting or related work functions controlled by other supervisors. You will determine the number and types of workers needed to accomplish specific projects. You will determine how many assignments can be accomplished concurrently, which ones may be delayed; consider skills, personnel, materials, and equipment available and required to complete projects. You will participate with superiors in the initial planning of current and future work schedules, budget requests, staffing needs, estimates, and recommendations as to scheduling projected work. You will assign work to subordinate employees, provide indirect oversight of trade workers (military and/or civilian personnel). You will plan and establish leave schedules and determine training needs/provisions for the accomplishment of training of employees.
