Electro-Mechanical Technician

Job Description

This Electro-Mechanical Technician role supports a metal manufacturing facility by servicing, maintaining, and upgrading existing production equipment and facilities, as well as assisting in the build of new machinery. You will focus primarily on electrical work while also performing mechanical repairs on a wide range of manual and automated equipment. The position plays a key role in reducing machine downtime, improving equipment reliability, and ensuring a safe, efficient production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and complete mechanical repairs on industrial production line equipment, including pumps, gearboxes, conveyors, filters, grinders, punch presses, and pneumatic components, with minimal downtime and supervision.

  • Perform electrical tasks such as changing 1 HP motors, working with 24V DC controlled motors and auto switches, hooking up control panels, and drilling and routing conduit to wire equipment.

  • Troubleshoot and perform electrical repairs on machine control circuits, including PLCs, AC and DC motors, sensors, and cameras.

  • Service, maintain, and upgrade older production equipment, focusing on safe and reliable operation.

  • Perform work on facility support equipment and building maintenance, including painting, floor care, basic electrical work, plumbing, and HVAC service, while maintaining the physical building structure.

  • Utilize a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to complete work orders, document repairs, and log corrective maintenance issues accurately and on time.

  • Collaborate with production personnel, maintenance technicians, and engineering staff to identify issues, coordinate corrective actions, and support continuous improvement.

  • Suggest and implement improved designs for existing equipment components and systems to enhance safety, reliability, and performance.

  • Perform periodic preventative maintenance on production equipment to ensure safe, proper, and efficient operation.

  • Fabricate and machine replacement and prototype parts and fixtures using tools such as lathes, mills, and surface grinders.

  • Service, maintain, and assemble punch press dies and components to support reliable production.

  • Analyze, install, and maintain water, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems, including making repairs and replacing worn or defective parts such as gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and piping.

  • Diagnose motor failures, properly connect and install dual-voltage motors, and verify performance using appropriate test equipment.

  • Follow all safety policies and procedures, maintain a safe working environment, and proactively offer suggestions to better protect all employees.

  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and organized workspace in accordance with facility standards.

  • Assist with spare parts inventory control to ensure critical components are available when needed.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Glendale Heights, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
