Staff Accountant

Description We are looking for an experienced Staff Accountant to join a collaborative finance team on a Contract basis. This contract opportunity will focus on supporting year-end financial activities, audit readiness, and core accounting operations in a fast-moving municipal environment. The ideal candidate can step into established workflows quickly, work with minimal supervision, and contribute dependable accounting support from day one.

Responsibilities:

• Manage daily cash recording activities and complete timely reconciliations to maintain accurate financial balances.

• Prepare and enter monthly journal entries across multiple departments while ensuring supporting documentation is complete and reliable.

• Contribute to year-end closing efforts and help assemble materials needed for the annual audit process.

• Maintain the general ledger by reviewing account activity, investigating discrepancies, and resolving reconciliation issues.

• Process recurring accounting transactions with a high degree of accuracy and attention to established financial controls.

• Adhere to documented procedures and internal guidelines while carrying out assigned accounting tasks.

• Partner with other members of the finance team to assist with daily operations and month-end workload demands.

• Provide clear updates on progress, risks, and deadlines so that accounting priorities remain on track. Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline is preferred.

• Prior experience in a Staff Accountant or similar accounting role with a solid grasp of core accounting principles.

• Working knowledge of debits, credits, journal entries, and general ledger activity.

• Strong Microsoft Excel capabilities for analysis, reconciliation, and reporting tasks.

• Background in corporate tax, sales tax, or corporate tax return support is beneficial.

• Ability to work independently, follow established processes, and collaborate effectively with a broader team.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills with a proactive approach to sharing updates and resolving issues.

• High level of accuracy, organization, and problem-solving ability in a deadline-driven environment.
