Job Title: Maintenance and Facilities Technician I

Job Description

This entry-level Maintenance and Facilities Technician role supports both manufacturing equipment and overall facility operations in a hands-on, shop-style environment. You will perform preventative maintenance, assist with machine repairs, maintain the building and grounds, and complete facility service requests while working closely with experienced maintenance mechanics. This position is ideal for a mechanically inclined individual who enjoys using hand and power tools, is eager to learn, and wants to build a long-term career in a manufacturing setting.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on manufacturing equipment, including inspections, lubrication, adjustments, and scheduled service tasks.

  • Assist experienced maintenance mechanics with troubleshooting and repairing machinery and facility systems.

  • Change oils and fluids on equipment as needed to support reliable operation.

  • Grease and service equipment according to preventative maintenance schedules.

  • Complete facility repair tasks, including basic plumbing, carpentry, HVAC support, and general building maintenance.

  • Maintain and clean plant areas, including manufacturing and office spaces, to support safe and orderly operations.

  • Support janitorial and facility upkeep activities such as restroom maintenance and general cleaning duties.

  • Perform snow removal and outdoor grounds maintenance as needed to keep the property safe and accessible.

  • Assist with landscape maintenance and exterior upkeep of the facility.

  • Respond to facility service requests and maintenance tickets in a timely and organized manner.

  • Operate pallet jacks and move materials safely throughout the facility.

  • Organize materials, tools, and supplies in the maintenance shop to maintain a clean and efficient workspace.

  • Work closely with mechanics, maintenance personnel, production teams, and outside vendors to keep operations running smoothly.

  • Support multiple departments by prioritizing and coordinating maintenance activities across the facility.

  • Participate in efforts to strengthen and rebuild the preventative maintenance program under new maintenance leadership.

  • Remain flexible to support maintenance needs that may arise outside standard hours, including overtime, weekends, and weather-related or facility emergencies.

  • Follow all safety procedures, use appropriate personal protective equipment, and maintain a safe working environment.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of maintenance processes and documentation as the department evolves.

Essential Skills

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand machinery, equipment, and mechanical systems.

  • Experience using hand tools and portable power tools in a maintenance, automotive, construction, or trade-related environment.

  • Basic preventative maintenance experience, including inspections, lubrication, adjustments, and routine service tasks.

  • Ability to perform basic facility maintenance such as minor plumbing, HVAC support, carpentry, and general building repairs.

  • Comfort working in a hands-on, active environment similar to an automotive repair facility or machine shop.

  • Reliability and flexibility to work overtime, weekends, and respond to weather-related or facility emergencies when needed.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple maintenance activities at once.

  • Teamwork skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with mechanics, maintenance personnel, production teams, and vendors.

  • Physical ability to stand and walk for most of the shift, lift up to 35 pounds, and frequently bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and reach.

  • Ability to operate pallet jacks and move materials safely within a manufacturing environment.

  • Willingness to work both indoors and outdoors as required by maintenance and facility needs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in automotive, construction, property maintenance, or skilled trades is highly relevant.

  • Experience as an Automotive Technician, Automotive Mechanic, Diesel Technician, or Maintenance Apprentice.

  • Experience as an HVAC Helper, Facilities Custodian with maintenance responsibilities, or Construction Laborer.

  • Experience as a Carpenter Helper, Machine Operator with maintenance experience, Service Technician, or Equipment Technician.

  • Experience in property or apartment maintenance, including roles such as Property Maintenance Worker, Apartment Maintenance Technician, or Grounds Maintenance Technician.

  • Familiarity with preventative maintenance procedures and documentation in a manufacturing or industrial setting.

  • Experience troubleshooting machinery and production equipment.

  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, HVAC repair support, carpentry, and landscape maintenance.

  • Comfort working in a non-temperature-controlled manufacturing and machine shop environment.

  • Interest in learning and contributing to the development of modern preventative maintenance programs under new leadership.

Why Work Here?

You will join a stable manufacturing organization that offers long-term career growth, strong internal promotion practices, and a supportive, employee-focused culture. The company frequently converts contractors to permanent employees and emphasizes promoting from within, providing a clear path to build your career over many years. Under new maintenance leadership, the department is modernizing and improving processes, giving you the chance to grow alongside a team that is actively strengthening preventative maintenance and overall operations. Once hired directly, you will have access to a competitive benefits package and all required PPE at no cost, along with the stability of an established manufacturing environment where average employee tenure is approximately 1215 years. The culture is friendly and welcoming, with strong teamwork, company-hosted events such as cookouts, and a positive environment where long-term employees enjoy helping new hires succeed. Workplace amenities include a large, clean cafeteria, free coffee, refrigerators for lunches, and onsite vending machines, contributing to a comfortable and convenient daily experience. The organization values stability and security, offering paid weather shutdowns, strong employee retention, and a long-term career path rather than a short-term job.

Work Environment

The work environment is a manufacturing and machine shop setting that is not temperature controlled, so conditions will vary with the seasons. Employees work around a mix of automated manufacturing equipment, manual machinery, production equipment, and facility systems, requiring awareness of safety practices and consistent use of provided personal protective equipment. The maintenance shop environment resembles an automotive repair facility or machine shophands-on, active, and focused on supporting equipment and facility needs throughout the day. The maintenance department is evolving under new leadership, with an experienced Maintenance Manager focused on strengthening preventative maintenance programs and improving overall operations, creating an environment of continuous improvement and process development. You will work both indoors and outdoors as needed, including tasks such as snow removal and grounds maintenance, and will regularly operate pallet jacks and move materials around the facility. The overall culture is welcoming, team-oriented, and collaborative, with many employees having long tenures and demonstrating high engagement and support for one another.
