Full job description
AI Infrastructure Engineer Echelon AI · Full-time · In-person - San Francisco Who we are About Echelon Echelon AI builds autonomous AI agents that implement and modernize enterprise ServiceNow configurations, from CMDB alignment to catalog maintenance, greenfield deployment to replatforming.
We're a seed-stage company backed by Bain Capital Ventures, working with enterprise customers including United Healthcare/Optum, ASICS, Fox, HubSpot, and Alera Group. We're building the AI-native future of ServiceNow delivery — with more enterprise platforms on the roadmap! The Role The role This is our founding AI infrastructure hire — a rare chance to define what AI infrastructure means at Echelon from the ground up. You won't be stepping into an existing playbook; you'll be writing it. You'll own how we architect, scale, and operate the systems our agents run on, set the standard for our infrastructure practices, and shape the function as the company scales. What you'll do Operate the platform:
-
Run Echelon across every region we serve, with full visibility into deployment state across environments
-
Own alerting, monitoring, and observability so issues get caught early and resolved fast
-
Evolve our multi-tenant architecture as we land larger enterprises and enter new geographies
Build leverage for the team:
-
Ship internal tooling that makes engineers, CS, and Sales meaningfully faster
-
Design access flows that are auditable, time-bound, and frictionless
-
Treat AI as a first-class part of every tool you build, including MCP servers, agent-driven workflows, and Slack-native interfaces
Make data accessible:
-
Surface usage and customer health where the team already works
-
Build pipelines that put answers in front of people instead of behind a query
Keep us compliant and audit-ready:
-
Partner with our CISO to address findings proactively across every environment and region, treating compliance as a continuous loop, not an annual scramble
-
Drive the architectural work that ladders us up to enterprise certifications, including FedRAMP
Who you are We're looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements below. If you meet them, you're encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement. Minimum requirements
-
Infrastructure-native: you've built and operated multi-region, multi-tenant systems on AWS, and Lambda, gateways, IAM, and observability are second nature
-
Tooling-obsessed: you've built internal tools that gave a team real leverage, and you can spot a manual process begging to be automated
-
AI-fluent: Claude, Cursor, MCP servers, and agentic workflows are part of how you build, and you reach for AI before you reach for a manual fix
-
Security-minded: you think about auditability, access control, and compliance as features, not chores
-
Systems thinker: you debug across the stack, from networking and identity to deployment pipelines and flaky alerts at 2am
-
Outcome-driven: you measure success in team velocity, customer reliability, and clean audits, not lines of Terraform
-
Strong production infrastructure or platform engineering experience, with comfort operating across ops, internal tooling, and compliance under one hat, and a bias toward fast, instrumented iteration
Preferred qualifications
-
SOC 2, ISO 27001, or FedRAMP exposure
-
Startup or fast-paced environment experience
Why Echelon is the right move
-
Founding ownership: Architect and own the platform layer end-to-end. Three areas (ops, tooling, compliance) usually split across three people; here they're yours.
-
Real enterprise stakes: Our agents touch real Fortune 500 environments. The infrastructure you build is what makes that safe.
-
AI-native by default: Build internal tools the way they should be built in 2026: agentic, MCP-driven, and Slack-native.
-
Founding exposure: Work directly with the CEO and founding team on the systems that make digital labor possible.
-
Significant equity: Meaningful stake in a company redefining enterprise work itself.
Compensation & Logistics
-
Competitive, fair-market compensation based on your experience and location
-
Eligible for meaningful early-stage equity
-
Fully remote, with occasional travel for team gatherings (travel and logistics costs covered by Echelon)
-
You'll work daily with frontier AI models and our own agent platform
How we hire (fast and human)
-
Intro call with the team (30 minutes)
-
Technical deep-dive on your infrastructure experience, plus a working session
-
Meet our founders to learn about the vision and the strategic projects ahead
-
Decision, typically within two weeks of first contact
