Job overview

The University of Texas at Arlington’s Center for Space Physics and Data Science seeks a Research Scientist I to study ion-neutral coupling in Earth’s upper atmosphere during geomagnetically active times. The research focuses on interactions between large-scale atmospheric and ionospheric disturbances and neutral-wind responses to geomagnetic forcing. The scientist will perform numerical simulations, analyze observational data, collaborate on ongoing projects, present and publish findings, and mentor students.

Full job description

The Center for Space Physics and Data Science (CSDS) at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) invites applications for a Research Scientist position in Space Physics. The Research Scientist I will conduct research on ion-neutral coupling processes in the Earthand#x2019;s upper atmosphere during geomagnetically active times. Area of focus include, but are not limited to, interactions between large-scale traveling atmospheric disturbances (LSTADs) and large-scale traveling ionospheric disturbances (LSTIDs), as well as neutral wind response to enhanced geomagnetic forcing. Primary responsibilities will involve performing numerical simulations and analyzing observational data. In accordance with USCIS regulations, successful applicants must be legally able to accept work in the United States..Conduct original research independently and collaboratively.Collaborate closely with members of the Space Physics group at UTA, actively contributing to ongoing projects.Present research findings at professional conferences and publish results on peer-reviewed journals.Mentor graduate and undergraduate students, providing support and guidance in their research activities..Ph.D. in physics, space physics, plasma physics, or a related field..Strong experience in Ionosphere and Thermosphere studies, particularly those with experience running Ionosphere-Thermosphere models.
