Full job description

Please note that applicants will be reviewed and will be filled on a continuing basis based on program needs.

Position: 2.00 FTE Special Education Teacher (7-12)

Location: Wayne Education Center (WEC), Williamson, NY

Salary Range: $52,341 - $61,805, based on experience and demonstrated abilities.

Start Date: September 01, 2026

Depending on location, this position may involve direct work with students with autism, emotional and/or developmental disabilities which may include, but are not limited to, oppositional and aggressive behaviors; mood disorders; and potentially severe and unpredictable physical and/or verbal outbursts. Teachers are expected to

  • Have ability to work with a diverse population of students. • Provide students with a safe, orderly environment that is conducive to teaching and learning. • Provide specialized instruction to students with emotional and learning disabilities. • Collaborate with colleagues and provide resources to meet student learning needs. • Communicate regularly and effectively with parents. • Record and report student progress.

Job Qualifications

NYS Teacher Certification - Students with Disabilities Generalist 5-9 or Students with Disabilities 7-12 or Special Education K-12. Preference will be given to candidates with dual certification in a SWD content area (Science). Candidates should possess a broad skill set of effective teaching and learning to engage learners of all levels including, but not limited to:

  • Knowledge of the NYS Learning Standards and Assessments. • Knowledge of curriculum content and accepted methods of instruction. • Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team. • Excellent written and oral communication skills. • Promoting equity and culturally responsive practices to create inclusive environments.

Job responsibility may require individual to do one and two person lifts and/or physical interventions on a daily basis with students weighing 50-200 pounds. Position requires the successful completion of all elements of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training. Initial and refresher TCI Trainings are provided by W-FL BOCES.
