This position offers the chance to guide a developing tax function, support a broad range of client and compliance needs, and help shape efficient practices that can scale with the business. The ideal candidate brings strong public tax expertise, sound technical judgment, and the ability to lead teams while partnering effectively with executives and clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct day-to-day tax operations by setting team priorities, assigning work, and maintaining accountability for deadlines and deliverables.

  • Review and oversee complex tax filings across individual, corporate, partnership, trust, and other multi-entity engagements to ensure accuracy and compliance.

  • Provide advanced guidance on tax planning, regulatory interpretation, and advisory matters for clients, leadership, and internal stakeholders.

  • Evaluate current tax procedures and implement improvements to workflow, documentation, technology usage, and overall efficiency.

  • Support organizational growth by building practical processes, strengthening controls, and helping create a scalable tax infrastructure.

  • Manage capacity planning, scheduling, and quality review standards to balance workload and maintain high service levels.

  • Build trusted relationships with clients, company leadership, and cross-functional partners through clear communication and responsive support.

  • Identify strategic tax opportunities related to entity structure, transactions, and business decisions, and present practical recommendations.

  • Contribute to hiring, coaching, and performance development efforts to strengthen the tax team over time.

  • Monitor federal and state tax law developments and communicate relevant impacts to clients and decision-makers.

Requirements • At least 5 years of progressively responsible tax experience in public accounting, corporate tax, or a combination of both.

  • CPA, EA, or progress toward a recognized tax or accounting credential is preferred.

  • Strong background in corporate or individual taxation, with additional exposure to partnerships, S corporations, trusts, or multistate filings viewed favorably.

  • Demonstrated success leading or mentoring tax professionals in a deadline-driven environment.

  • Solid technical research, return review, and problem-solving capabilities across a variety of tax matters.

  • Experience in a small or boutique firm setting is highly valued, especially when paired with background in a larger regional or national practice.

  • Ability to work effectively in an organization experiencing growth, change, or evolving operational needs.

  • Proficiency with tax software and Microsoft Excel, with experience improving tax tools or workflow systems considered a plus.
