Job Title: Tool Room Technician Job Description

The Tool Room Technician builds, repairs, and maintains tools, dies, fixtures, and equipment using a variety of hand and power tools. This role ensures that tooling and equipment meet quality standards, supports manufacturing operations, and collaborates with engineering, production, and external suppliers to resolve technical issues and improve processes.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate hand tools, metal saws, drills, and grinding equipment to build and repair tools, dies, fixtures, and production equipment.

  • Inspect tools, dies, fixtures, and equipment to verify they meet quality and performance standards, and perform necessary repairs or adjustments when issues are identified.

  • Perform troubleshooting and repair activities on tooling and molds to support reliable and efficient manufacturing operations.

  • Recommend new methods, tools, and equipment to improve Tool Room efficiency and support manufacturing cells.

  • Collaborate closely with engineering teams, production staff, and outside suppliers to diagnose problems and develop effective solutions.

  • Follow established policies, procedures, and safety guidelines while working in the Tool Room and on the production floor.

  • Support assembly operations in an industrial environment by ensuring that tooling and fixtures are properly maintained and available.

  • Interpret and work from dimensioned drawings, diagrams, and schematics to fabricate, modify, or repair tooling and equipment.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including proper handling and storage of tools, equipment, and materials.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on experience with assembly in an industrial or manufacturing environment.

  • Ability to interpret and work from dimensioned drawings, diagrams, and schematics.

  • Strong troubleshooting and repair skills related to tooling, molds, and production equipment.

  • Experience with tooling and mold repair in a manufacturing setting.

  • CNC machinist experience, including operating and working with CNC equipment for tooling and component fabrication.

  • Welding skills sufficient to support tool, fixture, and equipment repair and modification.

  • Ability and willingness to work overtime, including weekends, as needed to meet business requirements.

  • Ability to read, speak, write, and comprehend the English language to follow work instructions, safety procedures, and technical documentation.

  • Ability to comply with all company policies, procedures, and safety requirements.

  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds safely and repeatedly as required by the job.

  • Physical ability to stand, bend, push, pull, twist, kneel, climb, and work in temperature extremes as part of daily tasks.

  • Ability to wear and properly use all required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working in a Tool Room or similar environment supporting manufacturing operations.

  • Comfort working with a variety of hand tools, power tools, and metalworking equipment.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high quality standards for tools and equipment.

  • Effective collaboration skills to work with engineering, production teams, and external suppliers.

  • Problem-solving mindset with the ability to recommend process improvements and new tooling solutions.

Work Environment

This position operates in an industrial manufacturing setting with a standard schedule of Monday through Friday, 5:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m., with additional overtime, including weekends, as needed. Work takes place in a Tool Room and on the production floor, using hand tools, metal saws, drills, grinding equipment, CNC machinery, and welding equipment. The environment can include temperature extremes, and the role requires frequent standing, bending, pushing, pulling, twisting, kneeling, and climbing. Team members must wear all required personal protective equipment and follow established safety procedures at all times.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Smithfield, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $27.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
