Job category: Communications

UnitedHealth Group is a health care and well-being company that's dedicated to improving the health outcomes of millions around the world. We are comprised of two distinct and complementary businesses, UnitedHealthcare and Optum, working to build a better health system for all. Here, your contributions matter as they will help transform health care for years to come. Make an impact with a diverse team that shares your passion for helping others. Join us to start Caring. Connecting. Growing together.

UnitedHealth Group is seeking a Senior Digital Communications Specialist to help coordinate and deliver integrated digital communications projects across web, social, paid, earned and other channels. This is a hands-on role for an organized, curious communicator who combines strong project management with sound judgment, connects day-to-day work to broader communications goals, and helps teams turn direction into clear, useful action.

This person will support campaign planning and execution by maintaining project plans, coordinating contributors and approvals, preparing content and materials, tracking performance, and flagging risks or dependencies early. The role does not independently set strategy, but it is expected to understand the objective, audience and desired outcome; ask thoughtful questions; bring a point of view; and recommend practical ways to improve the work.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:

Coordinate Digital Communications Projects

  • Own project plans, timelines, task lists, assignments, dependencies and status reporting for assigned communications initiatives, keeping work organized and moving forward

  • Establish clarity on the objective, audience, desired outcome, accountable owner, timeline and key risks before advancing work into execution

  • Drive meetings, working sessions, reviews and approvals; capture decisions, assign follow-up actions and ensure commitments are completed

  • Anticipate schedule risks, ownership gaps, competing priorities and missing inputs; assess the implications and lead the team toward a practical resolution

  • Create clear decisions, handoffs and next steps that enable others to act; strengthen templates and workflows so effective approaches can be repeated and scaled

Support Integrated Campaign Execution

  • Help translate approved campaign strategies into clear workstreams, channel deliverables and activation schedules, keeping execution connected to the intended audience and communications outcome

  • Coordinate execution across web, social, media relations, paid media, analytics and other communications partners

  • Review deliverables against approved messaging, audience needs, channel requirements and campaign objectives; raise questions when a requested tactic may not support the intended outcome

  • Support launch readiness by tracking content, creative, technical, legal and compliance dependencies

Develop and Manage Content

  • Draft, edit and proofread digital content, briefs, presentations, talking points, project updates and other communications materials

  • Maintain editorial calendars, content inventories and production schedules

  • Organize source material, approved facts and messaging so teams can work from accurate, current information

  • Conduct quality-control reviews for accuracy, clarity, consistency, accessibility and adherence to established standards

Use Research and Performance to Improve the Work

  • Conduct audience, channel, competitor and communications research to support planning and execution

  • Gather performance data from available dashboards and partners; maintain campaign trackers and recurring reports

  • Summarize findings, patterns and open questions, including what the information may mean and what decision or action it could support

  • Help assess what worked, what did not and what should change; document lessons and practical recommendations for future work

Collaborate With Judgment and Curiosity

  • Build productive, consultative working relationships with partners in communications, marketing, analytics, technology, legal, compliance and business lines

  • Communicate clearly and professionally; share context openly, ask for help early and explain the thinking behind recommendations

  • Challenge assumptions constructively while working within strategies, priorities and decision rights established by senior team members

  • Handle sensitive information and work appropriately within a regulated, compliance-focused organization

You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree OR 4+ years equivalent professional experience

  • 4+ years of professional experience in communications, digital marketing, public relations, or a related field

  • 4+ years of experience coordinating multiple projects, deliverables or workstreams with overlapping deadlines

  • 4+ years of experience in corporate reputation management

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting digital content, websites, social media, integrated campaigns or editorial operations

  • Working knowledge of project-management tools, content calendars, collaboration platforms and analytics dashboards

  • Ability to turn broad direction into an organized work plan and move tasks forward with appropriate guidance

  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, matrixed environment with contributors in different functions or locations

  • Ability to balance responsiveness and speed with sound judgment, accuracy and quality control

  • Curiosity about digital communications, audience behavior, search, analytics, AI and emerging platforms

  • Experience in health care or another regulated industry is helpful but not required

  • Ability to understand the purpose behind an assignment, ask clarifying questions and contribute a practical point of view
