Controller

Description We are looking for an experienced Controller to lead core accounting operations and provide accurate, timely financial reporting for the organization in Westbury, New York. This position oversees the close process, supports the preparation of financial statements, and ensures the integrity of reconciliations across key accounts. The role also guides a small accounting team while using strong analytical and Excel capabilities to improve visibility into financial performance.

Responsibilities:

• Direct the monthly close cycle and ensure all financial activities are completed accurately and on schedule.

• Prepare financial statements and supporting reports that reflect the company’s operating results and financial position.

• Review and reconcile general ledger accounts, investigate variances, and resolve discrepancies promptly.

• Supervise the day-to-day work of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and a senior accountant to maintain efficient accounting operations.

• Use the organization’s accounting software to manage reporting, maintain records, and support financial controls.

• Analyze accounting data in Excel using tools such as pivot tables and lookup functions to identify trends and validate results.

• Oversee account maintenance activities to help keep financial records complete, organized, and current.

• Strengthen accounting procedures and uphold compliance with established accounting principles and internal standards. Requirements • Demonstrated experience in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role.

• Strong background in month-end close, financial statement preparation, and account reconciliation.

• Prior experience managing accounting staff, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and senior-level accounting personnel.

• Proficiency with accounting systems and the ability to work effectively within financial software platforms.

• Advanced Excel skills, including the use of VLOOKUPs and pivot tables.

• Solid understanding of accounting procedures, financial controls, and generally accepted accounting principles.

• Ability to identify account discrepancies, investigate issues thoroughly, and implement corrective action as needed.
