By joining our District 6 Traffic Engineering and Permits Section as a Transportation Engineer II in Kenton County, you'll have the opportunity to complete complex technical engineering project in the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of highways, structures or facilities.
Summary of Responsibilities:

Manages and oversees activities of engineering projects or programs with multiple phases and larger scopes of work and approves engineering documents as a Licensed Professional Engineer. Designs or coordinates the planning and design of transportation facilities in accordance with the department's policies, procedures and standards and in accordance with federal rules and regulations.

Interprets project plans and contract documents for property owners, local officials, contractors, consultants, materials suppliers and property owners. Reviews and investigates complaints of property owners and local officials.

Travels throughout an assigned area or throughout the District for the purpose of conferring on technical and operational problems with contractors, material suppliers, consultants, local officials, departmental engineers and county maintenance and special operations crews. Makes routine and final inspection and acceptance of construction and maintenance projects.

Interprets and drafts professional and technical papers and reports. Reviews planning studies and makes recommendations for alternative solutions. Makes recommendations concerning the planning or design of transportation facilities and related work.

Reviews requests for repairs, makes estimates, determines expenditures of funds for transportation programs.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION:See Special Requirements.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:Must have two years of engineering experience in addition to that required for licensure as a professional engineer.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:Master's degree in engineering will substitute for one year of the required experience. Graduate work in engineering beyond a Master's degree will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION:NONE
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.):Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Must be licensed as a professional engineer by the Kentucky Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors OR must be licensed in another state with the ability to obtain a Professional Engineering license from Kentucky Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors within the employee's initial six month probationary period. Engineering decisions recommended by individuals without a Kentucky Professional Engineering License must be approved by a KRS Chapter 322 Licensed Professional Engineer until licensure is obtained. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in the office and in the field. Will be exposed to risks inherent to construction sites which requires the following of safety procedures.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
