Salary Range: $52,341 -$61,805, based on experience and demonstrated abilities.

Start Date: As soon as possible

Teacher of the Visually Impaired Instructors are expected to:

  • Have ability to work with a diverse population of students. • Provide students with a safe, orderly environment that is conducive to teaching and learning. • Collaborate and consult with school organizations, community organizations, therapists, doctors, colleagues, parents regarding recommendations, modifications, and provide resources to meet student learning needs. • Instruct students in Braille code. • Perform Functional Visual Evaluations and Learning Media Assessments. • Communicate regularly and effectively with stakeholders. • Record and report student progress.

Job Qualifications

NYS Certification in Blind and Partially Sighted. Preference given to candidates with Orientation and Mobility certification.

Candidates should possess a broad skill set of effective teaching and learning to engage learners of all levels including, but not limited to:

•Knowledge of the NYS Learning Standards and Assessments. •Knowledge of curriculum content and accepted methods of instruction. •Knowledge of up to date, available technology to use and teach students. •Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team. •Excellent written and oral communication skills. •Promoting equity and culturally responsive practices to create inclusive environments.

Ability to travel between W-FL BOCES sites and component districts in this role shared between component school districts and/or Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES programs
