Full job description
The School of Education and Human Development (EHD) at the University of Virginia invites applications for an academic general faculty member at the Associate Professor level. This is a tenure-ineligible 12-month salaried appointment based in a nationally top-ranked program, Administration and Supervision (A&S), in the Department of Leadership, Foundations, and Policy (https://education.virginia.edu/offices-departments/education-leadership-foundations-policy) .
We are seeking an experienced educator and excellent instructor who will teach in both the M.Ed. (https://education.virginia.edu/academics/programs/administration-supervision-med-master-education) and Ed.D. (https://education.virginia.edu/academics/programs/administration-supervision-edd-doctor-education) degree programs, mentor Ed.D. students through their culminating capstone work, and serve as a faculty advisor for both programs. In addition, successful candidates will have experience with building and maintaining partnerships with schools and districts, along with contributing to the development of leadership preparation programs. We also seek a candidate whose work bridges theory, research, and practice; and who views training a new generation of leaders and supporting existing leaders as ways to cultivate school and system transformation.
The School of Education and Human Development offers a rich intellectual and collaborative environment for researching the preparation, development, practice, and impact of educational leaders. Opportunities for collaboration, partnership, and research are available through the K-12 Advisory Council (https://education.virginia.edu/research-initiatives/partnerships/uva-k-12-advisory-council) , a 125-district outreach initiative sponsored by EHD; as well as a range of partnerships with several K-12 Virginia school divisions and the Virginia Department of Education. Several well-established research centers at the School offer additional collaboration opportunities in educational policy (EdPolicyWorks (https://education.virginia.edu/research-initiatives/research-centers-labs/edpolicyworks) ), research on teaching and learning (CASTL (https://education.virginia.edu/research-initiatives/research-centers-labs/center-advanced-study-teaching-and-learning) ), and adolescent development and well-being (Youth-Nex (https://education.virginia.edu/research-initiatives/research-centers-labs/youth-nex) ). The UVA Partnership for Leaders in Education (UVA-PLE (https://www.darden.virginia.edu/uva-ple) ), a joint venture of the UVA Darden School of Business and EHD, presents sustained professional learning for district-level leaders to implement systemic change. The School and University provide opportunities for formal involvement in leadership-related initiatives across the University, such as at the Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy and the Darden School of Business.
Duties as a faculty member in EHD include engagement in faculty governance, service to the broader community, and offering service as well as taking the lead in forming partnerships at the departmental, school, university, governmental, and/or community level.
Duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to teaching, advising, mentoring and participation in program, departmental and school meetings are to be conducted primarily on-Grounds and in-person at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville.
