Job Description

Are you a risk management professional who enjoys turning complex information into meaningful strategies and solutions? This role provides an opportunity to work across the organization, helping identify and understand risk, and support effective insurance administration.

The Risk Program Manager is responsible for insurance program management, risk assessment and risk financing, claims management of large claims, contractual risk transfer as it relates to insurance, regulatory filings and market monitoring, budgeting, and executive and board reporting.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and execute renewal strategies for all lines of insurance. Monitor and evaluate regulatory, economic, industry, and market trends and their impact on insurance coverages, communicating potential impacts and related solutions to management.

  • Analyze insurance needs and contractual risk requirements, coordinating with internal teams, brokers, insurers, and other partners to obtain and maintain appropriate cost effective insurance coverage and appropriate risk transfer solutions in company contracts with outside vendors.

  • Prepare annual program budgets. Track variances throughout the budget year and report material variances.

  • Support regulatory affairs by providing required insurance related data for general rate case filings and other regulatory commission information requests.

  • Manage complex and significant insurance claims and recovery efforts, coordinating with internal and external partners to negotiate settlements and ensure timely resolution.

  • Provide insurance and risk management support for business initiatives and organizational changes, while communicating key program updates, claim trends, and market insights to the Board, management and other stakeholders.

  • Support Enterprise Risk Management through assistance in risk identification.

  • Assist Enterprise Risk Management in identifying risk mitigations available through insurance coverage.

  • Collaborate with Enterprise Risk Management, Internal Audit, and Compliance to ensure identified high risks are covered and tracked by the appropriate area.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, risk management or finance required.

  • Master’s degree in business or other type of analytical field preferred.

  • 7 years of risk management and insurance experience is required.

  • Ability to work independently and to be a team member within the work group and beyond.

  • Excellent verbal, analytical and written communications skills, strong teamwork, organized, fluent with office technology.

  • Working knowledge of commercial property, casualty, liability, executive risk, cyber, workers’ compensation, and other corporate insurance coverage lines preferred.

  • Utility, energy, infrastructure, construction, or regulated-industry insurance experience preferred.

  • Advanced knowledge of insurance industry practices, terms, coverage parameters, risk attributes required.

  • Industry certifications such as Associate of Risk Management (ARM) required or the ability to obtain certification/s within 6 months.

  • Ability to effectively communicate enterprise risk management practices and insurance administration processes to a variety of audiences.

  • Knowledge and skills include several of the following: enterprise risk, accounting, financial analysis, utility operations, contracts, energy market risks, presentations and negotiating.

  • Overnight travel is required to carry out duties, as necessary.

Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Hiring Range: $114,207 to $150,183

Hybrid work options are available for this role. The successful candidate will be required to work at our Headquarters in Spokane, Washington at least 3 days per week including Mondays and Tuesdays with additional day(s) determined by the manager.

In compliance with state laws, we provide the full salary range for each position, along with the typical hiring range based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
