VoIP Lead

Job Description

We are seeking a senior VoIP expert to own the reliability, scalability, and operational excellence of a carrier-grade voice platform. This role will partner closely with development teams to ensure systems are resilient, highly available, and capable of supporting production traffic at scale. The ideal candidate has experienced major production outages firsthand and knows how to prevent them from happening again.

Responsibilities

• Own reliability and uptime of VoIP infrastructure.
• Lead architecture reviews focused on scalability and fault tolerance.
• Troubleshoot complex SIP and voice-networking issues.
• Build monitoring, observability, and operational best practices.
• Create disaster recovery and failover strategies.
• Mentor technical teams on VoIP operations and reliability engineering.

Compensation: The yearly salary for this role will range from $125,000 - $200,000 based on relevant skills and experience.

Skills and Requirements

• 7+ years of hands-on VoIP engineering or operations experience.
• Deep expertise with SIP routing and carrier-grade voice environments.
• Strong experience with Asterisk, OpenSIPS, and/or Kamailio.
• Experience supporting high-availability production systems.
• Proven track record resolving critical outages and reliability issues.
• Twilio experience.
• SBC, voice routing, and carrier interconnect experience.
• Homer/HEP, Wireshark, or SIP troubleshooting tools.
• Prometheus, Grafana, or observability platforms.
• Linux administration and automation scripting.
• Telecom startup or hosted voice provider experience.
• Experience leading on-call operations and incident response.
