Overview
Kimley-Horn is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with4+years of experience to join the Orlando, FL (Florida) office! This is not a remote position.
Responsibilities
-
Lead and support the design of HVAC and mechanical systems from concept through construction across commercial, hospitality, municipal, and federal projects
-
Prepare and coordinate load calculations, equipment selection, ductwork/piping layouts, and technical specifications
-
Coordinate with architects, contractors, AHJs, and internal MEP disciplines
-
Manage portions of projects as a task manager or project manager, including scope, schedule, and budget
-
Serve as a primary client contact for portions of projects and support overall client relationship management
-
Oversee and mentor EITs, designers, and technical staff
-
Support and participate in RFQs/RFPs, proposals, and business development efforts
-
Ensure design quality through QA/QC processes and adherence to applicable codes (FBC, energy compliance, etc.)
Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
-
A minimum of 4 years of experience with increasing project leadership responsibility
-
Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or ability to obtain within 12 months
-
Familiarity with Florida codes and local AHJ coordination
-
Experience with:
-
HVAC systems (airside, hydronic, ventilation, controls coordination)
-
Plumbing systems (water, sanitary, gas)
-
Energy compliance tools (e.g., COMcheck or similar)
-
Proficiency in Revit/BIM-based design
-
Preferred Qualifications:
-
7+ years of experience with increasing project leadership responsibility

Experience managing projects and directly interfacing with clients
-
Demonstrated ability to mentor staff and contribute to winning work
