Location: Hahnville, LA (100% Onsite)

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 40 hours/week

Work Split: ~90% Office / Technical Analysis | ~10% Plant Field Walkdowns

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior EH&S Specialist to lead environmental compliance, regulatory reporting, and field verification initiatives at a premier chemical manufacturing facility in Hahnville, LA.

In this role, you will act as a key technical contributor supporting site operating discipline, working closely with plant engineers, operations, and environmental leverage teams to maintain the site’s license to operate. The ideal candidate brings a strong working background in continuous manufacturing or petrochemical operations, hands-on experience interpreting P&IDs, and practical familiarity with Clean Air Act and NESHAP regulatory frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

Regulatory Compliance & Technical Programs

  • Air & Compliance Programs: Support Benzene Waste NESHAP (BWON / Subpart FF) compliance, flare management/consent decree data workflows, and fugitive emissions (LDAR) tracking and resolution.

  • Waste Characterization & Management: Coordinate hazardous and industrial waste characterization, container management documentation, offsite shipment profiling, and RCRA compliance records.

  • Operating Discipline & EMS: Serve as a subject-matter resource for the site Environmental Management System (EMS); draft, update, and maintain plant-level environmental operating procedures.

  • P&ID Reviews & Field Verification: Read, interpret, and redline Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) to verify equipment streams, emissions points, and regulatory applicability. Conduct field walkdowns (~10%) to inspect physical plant assets against compliance documentation.

Reporting, Auditing & Data Management

  • Data Analysis & Tool Building: Aggregate, validate, and analyze monitoring datasets; build and improve Excel-based compliance tracking tools and automated reporting templates.

  • Audit & Investigation Support: Assist with internal and agency environmental audits, Root Cause Investigations (RCIs) for environmental deviations, and track corrective actions to completion.

  • Process Systems & Software: Extract operational and emissions data using internal historian and engineering software (e.g., AspenTech) to prepare routine regulatory filings.

  • Site Support: Assist with cross-functional industrial health and safety projects and plant turnaround/shutdown compliance activities as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • Experience: 3+ years of direct environmental compliance, environmental engineering, or EH&S experience in a chemical plant, refinery, petrochemical facility, or heavy industrial manufacturing environment.

  • Technical Acumen: Demonstrated proficiency reading and interpreting P&IDs , process flow diagrams (PFDs), and equipment lists.

  • Regulatory Exposure: Working knowledge of federal and state environmental standards (e.g., NESHAP, BWON, Title V, LDAR, RCRA).

  • Software: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (nested formulas, pivot tables, data verification) and Word.

  • Physical Capability: Ability to wear required PPE (steel-toe boots, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves) and navigate active industrial process units during occasional walkdowns.

Preferred

  • Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, or related discipline.

  • Direct experience extracting operating data via AspenTech (Aspen Process Informer / InfoPlus.21) or plant historians.

  • Hands-on involvement in Benzene NESHAP (BWON) audits or refinery/chemical consent decree program execution.
