Quarry Assistant Plant Manager

What You'll Be Doing
-
Lead day-to-day quarry and plant operations to safely achieve production, quality, and cost objectives for a high-volume operation producing approximately 1.5 million tons annually.

Champion a strong safety culture by reinforcing safe work practices, identifying and addressing hazards, and supporting compliance with company policies and applicable MSHA requirements.

Optimize crushing, screening, conveying, stockpiling, loading, and material-handling processes to improve throughput, quality, equipment utilization, and operational efficiency.

Partner with maintenance teams to prioritize preventive and corrective maintenance, minimize equipment downtime, and improve the reliability of mobile and fixed plant equipment.

Lead, coach, and develop employees while coordinating staffing, resources, and production activities to build an accountable, engaged, and high-performing team.
What Are We Looking For

Demonstrated ability to lead safe, efficient production in a quarry, aggregates, mining, or comparable heavy industrial environment.

Strong understanding of aggregate production processes with the ability to identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, productivity, reliability, and cost performance.

Ability to apply MSHA requirements, environmental standards, company policies, and safe work practices in daily operations.

Proven ability to lead, coach, develop, and hold teams accountable while fostering a collaborative and performance-focused work environment.

Strong business acumen, problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills with the ability to effectively manage changing operational priorities.

Strong safety leadership with the ability to promote a proactive safety culture, identify risks, and reinforce safe work practices.

Strong knowledge of aggregate production processes, including crushing, screening, conveying, stockpiling, loadout, and mobile equipment operations.

Effective leadership and people-development skills, including coaching, performance management, employee engagement, and accountability.

Ability to analyze production, quality, equipment performance, downtime, and cost data to identify trends and drive continuous improvement.

Strong problem-solving, decision-making, planning, organization, and communication skills with the ability to effectively manage multiple operational priorities.
Relevant Experience
-
5+ years of relevant experience in quarry, aggregates, mining, or a comparable heavy industrial operation, with demonstrated knowledge of safety, production, quality, and cost performance.
-
Experience supporting or leading high-volume production operations, including drilling and blasting, crushing, screening, conveying, material handling, stockpiling, and loadout.
-
Experience supporting rail operations, including railcar loading, loadout coordination, product distribution, and safe rail movement practices.
-
Experience partnering with maintenance teams to improve preventive maintenance, equipment reliability, availability, and production uptime.
-
Demonstrated experience leading, coaching, and developing frontline employees and supervisors while reinforcing safety, accountability, teamwork, and operational performance.
Education
-
Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Engineering, Construction Management, Operations Management, Business, or a related field preferred.

Relevant technical education, certifications, or specialized training in aggregates, mining, maintenance, safety, or operations may also be considered.
-
A combination of relevant education, technical training, and demonstrated quarry, aggregates, mining, or heavy industrial leadership capabilities may be considered in lieu of a four-year degree.
Physical Demands
-
Ability to regularly stand, walk, and move throughout an active quarry and processing plant, including on uneven, rocky, or sloped terrain.

Ability to climb and descend stairs, ladders, and elevated platforms to safely access and inspect operational areas and equipment.
-
Ability to bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, reach, and maintain balance as necessary when accessing or inspecting plant and quarry areas.
-
Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodation, when required to support operational activities.
-
Ability to safely perform work in an outdoor industrial environment with exposure to varying weather conditions, dust, noise, vibration, moving equipment, and elevated work areas while wearing required personal protective equipment.
Work Environment

Position works in an active rock quarry and aggregate production environment with regular presence in plant, quarry, stockpile, loadout, and rail areas.

Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, dust, noise, vibration, uneven terrain, moving equipment, and operating production equipment.
-
Work may be performed around crushing and screening equipment, conveyors, heavy mobile equipment, rail operations, and other industrial processes.
-
Required personal protective equipment must be worn while working in designated operational areas.
-
Flexibility to support operational needs outside normal business hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and emergency situations when necessary.
