About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Refuse Mechanic to join our service team. This role is responsible for providing on-site diagnostics, repair, and maintenance for refuse collection vehicles (front loaders, rear loaders, side loaders, and roll-off trucks) throughout New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. The ideal candidate has strong experience with hydraulic systems, electrical troubleshooting, and heavy-duty truck repairs, and thrives working independently in the field.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on refuse collection vehicles at customer sites.

  • Service hydraulic systems, electrical systems, compaction equipment, and lifting arms.

  • Conduct preventive maintenance, including inspections, adjustments, and component replacements.

  • Operate service truck equipped with tools and parts to complete field repairs.

  • Document work performed, parts used, and service recommendations.

  • Communicate effectively with customers to explain issues, timelines, and solutions.

  • Ensure safety standards are followed at all times when working on heavy equipment.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience as a diesel, heavy-duty, or refuse truck mechanic (field/mobile experience

preferred).

  • Strong knowledge of hydraulic and electrical systems used in refuse trucks.

  • Familiarity with McNeilus, Heil, Labrie, or similar refuse bodies a strong plus.

  • Ability to diagnose and repair heavy-duty truck systems with minimal supervision.

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (CDL a plus).

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. and work in outdoor environments year-round.

  • Own tools required; company provides specialized tools and service truck.
