About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Refuse Mechanic to join our service team. This role is responsible for providing on-site diagnostics, repair, and maintenance for refuse collection vehicles (front loaders, rear loaders, side loaders, and roll-off trucks) throughout New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. The ideal candidate has strong experience with hydraulic systems, electrical troubleshooting, and heavy-duty truck repairs, and thrives working independently in the field.
Key Responsibilities

Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on refuse collection vehicles at customer sites.

Service hydraulic systems, electrical systems, compaction equipment, and lifting arms.

Conduct preventive maintenance, including inspections, adjustments, and component replacements.

Operate service truck equipped with tools and parts to complete field repairs.

Document work performed, parts used, and service recommendations.

Communicate effectively with customers to explain issues, timelines, and solutions.

Ensure safety standards are followed at all times when working on heavy equipment.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience as a diesel, heavy-duty, or refuse truck mechanic (field/mobile experience
preferred).

Strong knowledge of hydraulic and electrical systems used in refuse trucks.

Familiarity with McNeilus, Heil, Labrie, or similar refuse bodies a strong plus.

Ability to diagnose and repair heavy-duty truck systems with minimal supervision.

Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (CDL a plus).

Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.

Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. and work in outdoor environments year-round.

Own tools required; company provides specialized tools and service truck.
