Job Description

The purpose of this position is to perform teaching duties and professional service for the College. This is accomplished by providing instruction as assigned; conducting and assessing instruction; developing and/or modifying curriculum; assisting students through academic advising; establishing, posting, and maintaining office hours; providing leadership for the development, growth, and support of the College and the assigned area; and undertaking professional community service.

Other duties include supporting the mission, vision, and values of the College and policies of the Board of Trustees; serving on various College committees, task forces, and other groups; and participating in various official College ceremonies and meetings.

This is a 10-month, tenure-track position, which will begin in January 2027.

Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.

Required Education

Master’s degree in nursing.

Required Experience

Two years of nursing clinical experience are required.

Candidates must be licensed nurses in Maryland or have the ability to be licensed.

  • Licensed nurse in Maryland or have the ability to be licensed

  • Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment for a diverse student population

  • Ability to provide instruction in classroom, skills laboratory, simulation, and clinical settings on and off campus.

  • Technology literacy, including the ability to use instructional technology and learning management systems

  • Skilled in developing, implementing, and utilizing assessment methods to evaluate student learning and achievement of course outcomes

  • Ability to employ a variety of instructional techniques & modalities designed to promote active learning and higher-order thinking

  • Ability to assess student performance objectively and provide timely, constructive, and actionable feedback

  • Effective communication skills

  • A well-articulated understanding of the role of community colleges and their students

  • Ability to maintain clinical expertise and teaching excellence through ongoing professional development and continuous learning

Preferred Qualifications

  • Clinical experience in mental health nursing – strongly preferred

  • Previous experience as a nurse educator including classroom teaching experience

  • Curriculum development experience

  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate student performance

  • Experience with test item writing

  • Experience with instructional technology

Hours per Week 40 - 100%

General Weekly Work Schedule

Full-time faculty teach 15 contact hours weekly during the Fall and Spring semesters and hold a minimum of 5 office hours per week. Course schedule as assigned based on nursing program needs and may include didactic, lab, and/or clinical.
