Full job description

Job Description

Our client's Electrical Markets Division is hiring an Electronics Product Development Engineer. The division makes cable accessories that connect utilities, power plants, factories and data centers. Installing them takes a lot of skilled manual work, such as cutting back cable and exposing its layers. Data center demand is rising and qualified installers are hard to find, so the team is building a robotic system that does this work faster, more consistently and with less training.

You'll work on the electronics inside the device, as part of a team of electrical, mechanical, robotics and software engineers. The team has 7–8 people now and is growing to about 15.

Responsibilities: -Design and develop electromechanical systems for cable preparation and installation platforms -Design analog, digital and mixed-signal circuits, including sensor signal conditioning and data-acquisition front ends -Design power electronics and power-distribution circuits, including motor-drive, DC-DC and protection circuits -Create schematics and multilayer PCB layouts for control, power, sensor-interface and communication boards -Select components, balancing performance, cost, availability and manufacturability -Build, bring up and debug prototypes, and keep iterating until the hardware is reliable enough for the field -Design for EMC/EMI, signal integrity and power integrity, and work with regulatory teams on CE, UL and FCC compliance -Write hardware documentation, including schematics, BOMs, fabrication/assembly packages and design records -Work closely with firmware, software, mechanical and systems engineers, as well as manufacturing, suppliers and PCB fabricators, to move designs into production -Contribute to intellectual property, such as invention submissions, patents and trade secrets -Share test and program results with internal and external stakeholders

Skills and Requirements

-Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related engineering field -3+ years of hands-on electronics product development experience. This means working on the design team and taking hardware from concept through prototype to production, not only testing. 3 years is the minimum. A PhD with relevant experience may count instead -Analog circuit design experience is the most important skill. Digital, mixed-signal and power circuit design are also needed -Schematic capture and PCB layout experience. The team uses Altium, but OrCAD/Cadence, KiCad or other similar tools are fine. This includes picking components and writing hardware documentation -Hardware bring-up, debugging and validation using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and DAQ systems -Willing to work on-site in Austin, TX in a hands-on lab role. Relocation support is available -Measurement equipment background: experience developing electrical measurement or test equipment -Controls, automation or robotics experience: these are adjacent skills the team could use right away -Master's degree or higher in EE, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related field -Power electronics, motor-drive or servo-drive circuit design -Sensor interfaces, signal conditioning and mixed-signal design -High-speed digital design, signal integrity and power integrity -Designing for EMC/EMI and regulatory certification (CE, UL, FCC) -Integrating embedded microcontrollers/processors and industrial fieldbus I/O (e.g., EtherCAT) -Electrical integration of machine-vision cameras, lighting or imaging sensors -DFM, DFT and DfR, plus experience working with contract manufacturers and PCB fabricators
