Full job description

Construction Bookkeeper

Location: Fleming Island, FL — Onsite Compensation: $65,000 - $80,000, depending on experience Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–4:30 PM Industry: Construction

The Opportunity We are a growing, family-owned and operated commercial construction company looking for an experienced Construction Bookkeeper to become a key member of our team. This is not a narrowly defined accounting role. We are looking for someone who enjoys wearing many hats, taking ownership, and being the go-to person for the day-to-day accounting and bookkeeping functions of a business.

If you enjoy being a big fish in a small pond, having visibility into the entire business, and working alongside a collaborative and personable leadership team, this could be a great fit. The right person will be polished, dependable, adaptable, and comfortable working in a smaller organization where everyone pitches in. You should be equally comfortable owning your responsibilities independently and collaborating closely with leadership and the broader team.

What You'll Do You will take ownership of the company's day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting functions, including:

  • Manage full-cycle bookkeeping using QuickBooks Online
  • Process weekly and manage payroll for 50 employees
  • Prepare and manage monthly AIA billing for commercial construction projects
  • Perform job costing and maintain accurate project financial records
  • Complete account and bank reconciliations
  • Manage invoicing, accounts receivable, and accounts payable functions
  • Maintain accurate and organized financial records in QuickBooks
  • Manage lien waivers and supporting project documentation
  • Track financial activity across multiple active construction projects
  • Assist with month-end and year-end accounting activities
  • Organize historical accounting information and maintain clean, reliable financial records
  • Partner closely with leadership and assist with additional accounting, administrative, and operational needs as they arise

What We're Looking For Construction industry experience is required. This person needs to understand the nuances of accounting and billing within a project-based construction environment. The ideal candidate will have:

  • 3+ years of bookkeeping/accounting experience
  • Previous experience within the construction industry
  • Strong hands-on experience with QuickBooks
  • AIA billing experience
  • Strong understanding of job costing
  • Payroll processing experience
  • Experience with full-cycle bookkeeping and account reconciliations
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to independently manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • A polished, professional, and personable communication style
  • A flexible, adaptable mindset and willingness to wear multiple hats

Most importantly, we're looking for someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys being relied upon, and wants to become an important part of a smaller organization rather than simply being one person within a large accounting department.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive Salary: Up to $80,000, depending on experience
  • Performance Bonuses: Mid-year and year-end bonuses based on performance
  • Medical Insurance: 3 plan options — HMO and PPO options - eligible after 30 days
  • Dental & Vision
  • Life Insurance: $5,000 in coverage
  • PTO: 2 weeks
  • Paid Holidays: Christmas, Thanksgiving, Fourth of July, Easter, New Year's, Memorial Day, and Labor Day
  • Work-Life Balance

Why Join Us? You'll be joining a family-owned and operated company with a collaborative, down-to-earth culture. This is a smaller environment where leadership is accessible, people genuinely work together, and strong performers are trusted to take ownership.

For someone who enjoys wearing many hats, this is an opportunity to become a big fish in a small pond — taking ownership of a critical function, working closely with company leadership, and making a visible impact on the organization.

We look forward to your application!
