Full job description

Description

SAIC is seeking a Digital Systems Engineer (Model-Based Systems Engineer) to support SAIC’s prime SETA program supporting the NRO Ground Enterprise Directorate (GED) in Chantilly, VA.

Note: Qualified candidates must have a current and active Top Secret/SCI with Polygraph to be considered for this role.

As the Digital Systems Engineer (Model-Based Systems Engineer) you will support the advancement of Digital Engineering and MBSE capabilities across intelligence ground systems, mission operations, and enterprise architecture initiatives. You will drive the transition from document-centric systems engineering to a scalable, model-centric digital engineering environment that improves interoperability, requirements traceability, architecture consistency, model reuse, automation, and data-driven decision-making.

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in systems engineering, MBSE, enterprise architecture, and engineering automation, coupled with strong technical leadership and the ability to deliver innovative, mission-focused solutions across complex stakeholder environments.

Overview of Key Responsibilities

  • Provide enterprise leadership for Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and digital engineering transformation, establishing strategy, governance, standards, roadmaps, and best practices that align with NRO mission objectives and advance engineering maturity across the enterprise.

  • Lead the development, integration, and sustainment of system, system-of-systems, and enterprise architectures using MBSE, SysML, UAF, and related methodologies to support mission analysis, capability development, requirements engineering, technology evaluation, and technical decision-making.

  • Develop and govern a federated MBSE ecosystem, establishing reusable architecture frameworks, common data models, modeling standards, configuration management processes, and authoritative engineering data sources that promote interoperability, scalability, consistency, and enterprise-wide collaboration.

  • Drive model-based automation and digital engineering innovation through the application of Python, APIs, structured data exchange, AI-enabled capabilities, and integrated tool environments that improve engineering efficiency, traceability, model quality, analytics, and decision support.

  • Advance analytical and executable engineering capabilities by integrating MBSE with digital twins, simulation environments, operational mission-thread analysis, and other model-driven approaches that enhance mission planning, architecture assessment, risk reduction, and operational effectiveness.

  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor to government and contractor leadership, translating strategic objectives into actionable engineering solutions; leading technical reviews and cross-functional collaboration; mentoring engineering teams; and delivering architecture products, trade studies, technical assessments, and executive recommendations that inform enterprise modernization and mission success.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related STEM discipline and fourteen (14) years of relevant experience; Master's degree and twelve (12) years; or PhD/JD and nine (9) years. Additional relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

  • Active Top Secret/SCI security clearance with Polygraph.

  • Demonstrated experience leading MBSE implementation efforts, providing technical direction, and mentoring other systems engineers.

  • Demonstrated experience implementing MBSE and Digital Engineering practices using SysML, enterprise modeling tools, and UAF, DoDAF, or similar architecture frameworks.

  • Experience developing and governing architecture models, requirements traceability, configuration management processes, and authoritative engineering data in collaborative engineering environments.

  • Experience supporting enterprise and system-of-systems engineering, including architecture development, CONOPS, requirements engineering, technical baseline management, and cross-organizational integration.

  • Experience applying systems engineering principles across the full lifecycle of complex national security, intelligence, defense, or space systems.

  • Demonstrated technical leadership, stakeholder engagement, and the ability to communicate complex engineering concepts to senior government and contractor leadership.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and modern engineering, requirements management, and collaboration tools.

  • Experience supporting NRO, IC, NGA, DoD, or other classified space and intelligence programs.

Target salary range: $180,001 - $220,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
