Purpose
Provide entry-level technical design support for instrumentation and control systems within the Oil & Gas sector. Assist engineers, designers, and project teams in the development of control system drawings, instrumentation layouts, wiring diagrams, loop drawings, and related documentation. Support the design, modification, and implementation of instrumentation and control systems while developing a working knowledge of industry standards, company procedures, and engineering best practices. Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) software to prepare accurate project deliverables and contribute to project success through attention to detail, collaboration, and continuous learning. This role is expected to work under direct supervision while building technical proficiency and gaining experience in instrumentation and controls design.

Responsibilities:

Assist with computer-aided design (CAD) drafting and preparation of instrumentation and controls drawings, schematics, and documentation based on established specifications, standards, sketches, and vendor information.
-
Support engineers and senior designers in the development, revision, and coordination of project deliverables.
-
Assist with the preparation of instrumentation location plans, wiring diagrams, loop diagrams, panel layouts, and control system documentation.
-
Learn and apply company, client, and industry standards related to instrumentation and control systems.
-
Support instrumentation equipment selection activities and preparation of associated documentation as directed.
-
Assist with the development and maintenance of instrumentation equipment, conduit, cable, and wiring bill of materials (BOMs).
-
Participate in design reviews and incorporate feedback from project team members.
-
Coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams to ensure design consistency and project alignment.
-
Perform quality checks on assigned work to verify accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project requirements.

Maintain project files, records, and documentation in accordance with company procedures.

Support engineering, design, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities through preparation of design deliverables and technical documentation.

Assist with the preparation and updating of HMI layouts, network architecture diagrams, and control system documentation under the direction of senior staff.

Provide task status updates to support project scheduling and reporting requirements.

Participate in project meetings and contribute to discussions regarding project progress and design solutions.

Complete assigned tasks under supervision while continuing to develop technical and professional skills.

Qualifications
-
Associate degree, technical certificate, or bachelor's degree in engineering technology, instrumentation and controls, electrical engineering technology, drafting, design, or a related field preferred.

Entry level position, zero to two (0-2) years of relevant instrumentation and controls, CAD drafting, or engineering support experience a plus.
-
Basic knowledge of CAD software and engineering drafting principles.

Familiarity with instrumentation and control system drawings, schematics, and design documentation preferred.
-
Basic understanding of industrial control systems, instrumentation devices, and electrical fundamentals preferred.
-
Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and related software applications.
-
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
-
Demonstrated ability to learn new software, systems, and technical concepts.
-
High level of personal integrity and professionalism.

Ability to work collaboratively and build effective working relationships.

Proficient in written and spoken English.

Physical Demands and Working Environment

Partially indoor professional office environment which may include exposure to bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.

Mobility around a job/construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling and wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Primarily local travel during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business.
