Full job description

Job Type: Full-time, non-exempt Compensation: $57,000 - $63,000 depending on experience Cause Areas: Housing & Homelessness Location: Los Angeles County, with regular travel throughout the County About Better Angels Los Angeles County is in the midst of a homelessness crisis that demands coordination, accuracy, and real-time information. Better Angels is a local nonprofit building practical, free, scalable solutions that help people access shelter, interim housing, and services more easily. One of our important tools is our public Shelter Directory, a centralized, accurate, and accessible resource for service providers and individuals seeking safe housing options. We are also building Shelter Operating Software to support our partners. We believe accurate information saves time and, in some cases, lives. Position Summary Better Angels is seeking a Shelter and Interim-Housing Associate to collect and maintain accurate, current information about shelter and housing resources across Los Angeles County and support the teams responding to the homelessness crisis. This is not an interim job; this full-time role will support interim housing and shelter operators. This is a full-time, front-line oriented role combining relationship management, data quality, research, volunteer coordination, and operations. You will visit shelters and housing programs, build relationships with the people who operate them, document and validate program information, and maintain reliable information in Better Angels' systems. At least half of your time will be spent in in-person interviews and visits with our partners. A critical part of the role is not only getting information right initially, but building relationships that help us know when information changes. Shelter availability, eligibility requirements, services, hours, referral processes, and other program details can change frequently. Strong provider relationships and consistent follow-up will help ensure the Shelter Directory remains a trusted resource over time. You will also train and supervise volunteers who extend this work across Los Angeles County. Working closely with Better Angels teams responding to the homelessness crisis, you will help turn information collected on the front lines into a more accurate and useful picture of the resources available to people experiencing homelessness. What You'll Do Collect and Maintain Accurate Shelter and Housing Information

  • Conduct in-person visits to shelters and housing programs throughout Los Angeles County.
  • Establish an accurate baseline of information and photos for each program you visit.
  • Document and validate services offered, eligibility requirements, populations served, referral processes, hours, contact information, capacity, and other relevant program details.
  • Enter and maintain information in Better Angels' platforms and track documents.
  • Review information for accuracy, completeness, consistency, and duplication.
  • Identify gaps, inconsistencies, and outdated information and work with providers to resolve them.
  • Develop relationships with shelter and housing operations staff that make it easier to capture changes as programs evolve.
  • Establish regular follow-up practices with partners to help keep information current.
  • Collect representative photos and other information needed to maintain useful public listings.
  • Help develop and improve processes for validating and maintaining information over time.

Develop Provider Relationships

  • Build positive, professional relationships with the shelter directors, housing providers, program staff, and community partners you meet.
  • Communicate respectfully and efficiently with people working in busy, often high-pressure environments.
  • Follow up with providers when information is incomplete, unclear, or has changed.
  • Become a reliable point of contact for providers working with Better Angels.
  • Develop a practical understanding of how shelter and housing programs operate and how people access them.

Train and Supervise Volunteers

  • Onboard, orient, train, and support volunteers who help extend shelter and housing information work across Los Angeles County.
  • Provide volunteers with clear processes, expectations, tools, and quality standards.
  • Assign and coordinate volunteer visiting locations and follow-up activities.
  • Review volunteer-submitted information for accuracy and completeness.
  • Provide feedback and coaching to help volunteers conduct effective site visits and provider outreach.
  • Track volunteer assignments and ensure follow-up work is completed.
  • Help build a consistent volunteer model that allows Better Angels to expand its coverage without compromising data quality.

Collaborate Across Better Angels

  • Work closely with teams responding to the homelessness crisis, including programs, services, shelter, housing, and technology.
  • Share information and observations that can help other teams understand available resources and emerging needs.
  • Support the team with research, outreach, reporting, and special projects.
  • Help organize and analyze information about shelter and housing resources to support operational decision-making.
  • Participate in projects that improve how Better Angels connects people with shelter, housing, and other services.
  • Contribute to the development of practical tools and processes that make housing and shelter information easier to access and use.

Who You Are You are a warm, organized, and dependable professional who enjoys working with people and making things work better. You build trust quickly and are comfortable talking with people in a wide range of settings. • Familiarity with Los Angeles County's homeless services system and Service Planning Areas.
  • Experience working with nonprofit, government, healthcare, or community service providers.
