The Coordinator, Zero Waste and Special Projects contributes to the ongoing optimization of Georgetown University’s Zero Waste initiatives at the Hilltop and Capitol Campuses. Additionally, the Coordinator, Zero Waste and Special Projects supports efforts to achieve Georgetown’s sustainability strategic plan through special projects.
Reporting directly to Manager, Administration and Analysis, Coordinator, Zero Waste and Special Projects interacts with faculty, staff, unionized employees, students, senior leadership, neighbors, external partners, vendors, and government agencies to implement strategic initiatives and drive behavior change in our campus communities.

Through engagement and strategic planning, the Office of Sustainability fosters a culture of sustainability at Georgetown, bridging practice with learning and research, while supporting the university in taking institutional action on issues related to sustainability on campus, in administrative operations, and in the local community.
The Coordinator, Zero Waste and Special Projects supports initiatives and projects that drive progress towards the university’s zero waste performance targets and the university’s overall sustainability goals. The Coordinator, Zero Waste and Special Projects reports to the Manager, Administration and Analysis in the Office of Sustainability. The Coordinator, Zero Waste and Special Projects aids the Manager, Administration and Analysis in the convening and facilitation of cross-functional teams working together to achieve the university’s sustainability goals. The Coordinator, Zero Waste and Special Projects role is also embedded in the Waste Management functions reporting to the Solid Waste Disposal & Recycling Manager in Planning, Facilities, and Management. The Coordinator, Zero Waste and Special Projects works between the Office of Sustainability and Planning, Facilities, and Management to align programming and ensure operational efficiency. The Coordinator, Zero Waste and Special Projects works on behalf of the Office of Sustainability and Planning, Facilities, and Management interacting regularly with key university stakeholders and providing guidance and educational training on sustainability related matters.
The Coordinator, Zero Waste and Special Projects plays a key role in supporting the Manager, Administration and Analysis with data collection and analysis from internal partners for internal and external reporting purposes.
Requirements and Qualifications
The Coordinator, Zero Waste and Special Projects must have the demonstrated ability to form trusted and effective relationships and partnerships, and the ability to manage such partnerships in a way that leads to mutual benefit in the implementation of sustainability programs and projects.
This position requires a bachelor’s degree in environmental science or a related discipline. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years of experience contributing to progressively complex project implementation in an environmental science focused organization, higher education preferred. The candidate must have demonstrated experience supporting and collaborating with senior leadership. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including grammar, spelling and composition are necessary. The candidate must have exceptionally strong organizational skills and must also demonstrate proven interpersonal skills in a high-profile environment with courtesy, professionalism, diplomacy, and efficiency. Analytical abilities required, with demonstrated experience collecting, analyzing, and reporting data from sustainability functional areas (e.g. sustainable built environment, sustainable food systems, inclusive sustainability, water resources, clean energy, urban biodiversity, sustainable transportation, circularity of materials, regenerative economy). Must be able to effectively manage and prioritize multiple independent tasks.
This position requires proficiency in the use of standard office productivity software including Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and the ability to compose clear and compelling presentations and other correspondence (utilizing Powerpoint, Google Slides, Canva, Presi, or other Presentation Programs).
The ideal candidate is extremely organized, flexible and creative, and able to work with a variety of personalities and constituencies to meet the demands of the job. The candidate is a proactive self-starter who will also take direction and feedback from supervisors to adjust their approach to the work. The candidate proactively engages with, learns and communicates with evolving technologies to enhance the productivity of the Office of Sustainability team. The ideal candidate will be a trusted member of an essential team.
Additionally, it is preferred that the ideal candidate hold a TRUE Zero Waste Advisor and/or LEED GREEN Associate or other relevant sustainability credential.

Pay Range:
The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$47,586.00 - $87,558.13
Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
