Full job description

Jacobs Civil Consultants, Inc. is seeking a Transit and Rail Vehicle Engineer Professional to work in New York, NY and various unanticipated worksites in the US. In this role, you will:

Participate and support conceptualization and design of next-generation transit vehicles, focusing on efficiency, sustainability, and user experience. Apply advanced principles of mechanical engineering, including dynamics, thermodynamics, and material science, to develop reliable, cost effective and innovative rolling stock designs for different transit modes. Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to integrate smart technologies and green energy solutions, reflecting commitment to environmental stewardship and innovations. Support development and execution of rigorous testing and validation processes, employing both empirical analysis and theoretical reasoning to ensure designs meet stringent safety and performance standards. Conduct rigorous safety assessments and risk analyses, utilizing a methodical approach to identify and mitigate potential hazards. Develop and conduct engineering assessments of rolling stock to identify opportunities for sustainability improvements, from manufacturing to end-of-life recycling or repurposing of existing. Collaborate with other disciplines on the integration of advanced mechanical systems and technologies into rolling stock designs, including automation, connectivity, and energy-efficient systems. Provide engineering support for a variety of transit vehicle projects. That includes vehicle field testing and evaluation, reliability assessments, design reviews, and production quality oversight. Support procurement projects of new and overhauled transit vehicles with focus on subway, heavy rail, bus, and zero-emission vehicles. Evaluate proposals for technical/engineering support and conduct design reviews of proposals submitted by vendors and contractors.

Hybrid schedule is allowed.

Travel: 40% domestic travel to suppliers' manufacturing facilities and clients' sites visits.

REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or related field and 4 years of work experience in the job offered or related Mechanical Engineer occupation.

SPECIFIC SKILLS: Expertise and knowledge of: Vehicle systems manufacturing, supply industry, engineering consulting, and fleet operation environments. Fleet maintenance standards, systems, and practices, like supply chain support, tools management and procurement, and fleet database usage. Vehicle systems test environment, including usage of performance evaluation software, sensors, and special hardware, such as engine test cells and dynamometer. Testing reports and procedures, such as engine experiments and components evaluation. Fleet management database systems like ERP, DMS, CRM. New vehicle systems certifications processes including external audits preparations and coordination. Sub suppliers' collaboration and evaluation in aspects of equipment quality approval, subcomponents suitability for specific vehicle systems, and operational environment audits. Fleet procurement programs.
