Job Summary:

General Atomics Systems Integration, LLC (GA-SI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a provider of military and commercial engineering services. GA-SI is a leading-edge expert in systems integration technologies, reliability improvements, and controls system design.

We are seeking a Trade Compliance Classification Supervisor to work with related GA affiliates. In this role, you will supervise a team of trade compliance classification analysts who analyze technical product data and apply U.S. export and import regulations to determine accurate classifications under EAR, ITAR, Schedule B, and the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), and you will support trade compliance classification activities like those of your team.

Classification results may affect licensing, permits, customs duties, tariffs, export declarations, sourcing strategies, and other business activities. The position therefore requires careful analysis, clear written rationale, strong technical curiosity, and the ability to work with the related GA affiliate’s Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Program Management, Legal, and other stakeholders.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise the team of up to ten trade compliance classification analysts, scheduling and monitoring work assignments.

  • Offer guidance and coaching to trade compliance team members.

  • Determine and maintain export control classifications (e.g., ECCN under the EAR, USML category under ITAR) for hardware, software, technical data, and services.

  • Determine and maintain import classifications (e.g., HTS/Harmonized Tariff Schedule codes, Schedule B) for materials and products.

  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, bills of material, and product descriptions to understand technical characteristics and functionality.

  • Coordinate with Engineering, Program Management, Supply Chain, and Legal/Compliance to obtain necessary technical information for accurate classification.

  • Document classification rationales and maintain classification records in company systems in accordance with internal procedures.

  • Support internal audits, spot checks, and corrective actions related to classification accuracy.

  • Monitor regulatory changes related to classification.

  • Provide guidance to internal stakeholders on basic classification concepts and data requirements.

We recognize and appreciate the value and contributions of individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences and welcome all qualified individuals to apply.

Job Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a Bachelors degree in Business, Science, Engineering, or a related field and nine or more years of progressively complex import/export compliance related experience. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.

  • Demonstrate an extensive technical expertise and application of export compliance principles, concepts, and practices as well as management and leadership skills including organizing, planning, scheduling, and coordinating workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones.

  • Must possess the ability to resolve moderately complex management and technical problems, serve as spokesperson on assigned projects and/or programs, and provide leadership and direction to assigned staff.

  • Strong communication, leadership, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required to enable an effective interface with others.

  • Must be able to effectively communicate with engineers and scientists as well as all levels of management.

  • Experience reading, understanding, and analyzing technical products (e.g., drawings, CAD, specifications, design reviews, bills of material, data sheets) relating to components, end-items, complex systems, and software.

  • Demonstrated curiosity and willingness to investigate unfamiliar products, technologies, and regulatory requirements.

  • Strong written English skills and the ability to prepare clear, concise, and structured technical analyses and regulatory applicability rationales.

  • Must be able to work on a self-initiated basis and in a team environment, and able to work extended hours and travel as required.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain and DoD security clearance is required.
