Description
Open the Door. Launch the Future.
You'll be there at both ends of a student's Job Corps journey welcoming them in and launching them forward. As an OA/CTS Counselor, you'll recruit and enroll new applicants and guide exiting students toward quality full-time jobs, military service, higher education, or advanced training, building the partnerships that make both possible.
This is a role for a relationship-builder and connector: someone who thrives in the community, communicates with warmth and clarity, and takes real pride in helping young adults find their start and their next step.
Why Join Us? Make a Real Impact!
Job Corps is a transformative program that provides education, vocational training, and career readiness to young adults. In this role, you shape the student journey from first contact to final placement — recruiting applicants, ensuring a smooth enrollment, and helping students transition into careers and opportunities that change their lives.
What You'll Do
Recruit & Enroll New Students
Lead applicant recruitment and arrival coordination. Conduct comprehensive screening to determine applicants' eligibility and suitability for Job Corps enrollment according to all PRH requirements, secure and evaluate applicants' behavioral, medical, and educational records, and where appropriate deny enrollment and refer applicants to other resources. Conduct thorough assessments and career counseling throughout the admissions process.
Guide Student Transition & Placement
Provide exiting students with transitional support and placement services leading to quality full-time jobs, military enlistment, higher education, or advanced training. Work cooperatively with Career Technical Training and Career Transition Readiness staff to deliver comprehensive, individualized case management, establish supportive mentoring relationships during the Career Transition Phase, provide personalized career counseling, and develop, monitor, and update student transition plans to ensure successful outcomes.
Build Community Partnerships
Identify and develop Center-beneficial partnerships that lead to enrollment and student placement. Work closely with community agencies, employment services, high schools, and trade and technical schools to inform prospective applicants about Job Corps, and develop referral linkages with community agencies and local businesses for prospective enrollments and post-training placement. Conduct campus tours, pre-arrival visits, and parent meetings, and serve as a Center liaison to facilitate a seamless enrollment process and early retention.
Model Standards & Collaborate
Follow all integrity guidelines and ensure strict confidentiality of sensitive information and student data, helping the Center meet or exceed DOL/Company performance goals. Mentor, monitor, and model College and Career Readiness Skills; support a positive community culture; communicate clearly; resolve problems with sound judgment; partner across all departments; and accept direction from the Center Director or designee, including other duties as assigned. You may supervise assigned students performing intern duties.
