Full job description

Description We are looking for an experienced Sr. Auditor to support audit and compliance initiatives in Berkeley, California. This Long-term Contract position is ideal for a self-directed, detail-oriented individual who can manage control testing, organize documentation, and keep multiple audit workstreams moving efficiently with limited oversight. The role requires strong judgment, clear communication with process owners, and the ability to track progress, identify issues, and escalate concerns appropriately.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate audit readiness activities by organizing timelines, aligning stakeholders, and helping ensure required materials are available for review.

  • Manage and monitor request lists, follow up directly with process owners, and provide clear guidance on documentation and evidence needs.

  • Execute control testing procedures and prepare thorough supporting workpapers that demonstrate the results of audit activities.

  • Maintain accurate status reporting for testing progress, open items, and completion milestones across assigned audit areas.

  • Assist with additional audit and compliance testing projects as business needs arise, ensuring deadlines and quality standards are met.

  • Partner with the Audit Manager to assess supporting evidence, validate documentation, and contribute to broader internal audit efforts.

  • Identify gaps, inconsistencies, or potential findings during testing and raise questions promptly to support timely resolution.

  • Support operational and financial audit activities by keeping records organized and helping maintain an efficient review process. Requirements • At least 5 years of internal or external audit experience, preferably supported by a finance or accounting background.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of SOX compliance, financial auditing, operational auditing, and audit planning practices.

  • Proven ability to perform control testing and document results in a clear, accurate, and audit-ready manner.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to track multiple requests, deadlines, and testing activities simultaneously.

  • Confidence working independently in a lean audit environment with minimal training or supervision.

  • Sound judgment in recognizing issues, asking the right questions, and escalating concerns when appropriate.

  • Effective communication skills for working with audit leadership and business process owners in a detail-oriented, in-person setting.
