In this role, you will play a key part in advancing large gas turbine technology by providing expertise in metallic materials, advanced coatings, and ceramic systems. As a member of our Large Gas Turbine Engineering organization, you will work with multidisciplinary teams involved in research, development, manufacturing, repair, service, and product engineering.

This evergreen opportunity aims to build a pipeline of materials engineering talent to meet current and future business needs within our gas turbine portfolio. Successful candidates will engage in material selection, qualification, failure analysis, coatings development, ceramic technologies, supplier qualification, and advanced technology initiatives, all focused on enhancing performance, reliability, durability, and sustainability of Siemens Energy products.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Provide technical knowledge in metallic materials, thermal barrier coatings, corrosion-resistant coatings, ceramic materials, and high-temperature materials for gas turbines.

  • Support material selection, qualification, and specification development for gas turbine components.

  • Evaluate material performance related to high-temperature exposure, oxidation, corrosion, fatigue, creep, wear, and environmental degradation.

  • Collaborate with design, manufacturing, quality, and supplier teams to address complex material-related challenges and conduct failure investigations.

  • Support introduction of new technologies, materials, coatings, and manufacturing processes into production and service operations.

  • Develop and maintain engineering material specifications, testing methodologies, and technical standards while supporting the introduction of new technologies and materials.

  • Analyze material test data and generate technical recommendations supporting engineering decisions.

  • Contribute to innovation initiatives related to decarbonization, efficiency improvements, advanced materials, and energy transition technologies.

  • Support domestic and international projects through technical reviews, presentations, and cross-functional collaboration.

What You Bring

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Engineering (Metallurgical, Ceramic, Chemical, Mechanical with Materials emphasis), or related discipline.

  • 3 or more years of experience in the relevant field. Candidates with more experience can be qualified for a higher level.

  • Knowledge of engineering materials, material behavior, characterization, and testing methods.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills; ability to work in global, multidisciplinary teams.

  • Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in relevant fields.

  • Experience with high-temperature metallic materials, superalloys, coatings, materials testing, failure analysis, and industries like gas turbines and aerospace.

  • Familiarity with creep, fatigue, fracture mechanics, oxidation, corrosion mechanisms, and engineering quality methodologies (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA).

Export Control Requirement (ECC): Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
