STUDENT INTERN - IT NETWORKING (HDQ)

Job Description:
POSITION PURPOSE
This position is located at our Headquarters building in Bismarck, ND.
This position is for the summer months of 2027 (approximately May 17, 2027 through August 20, 2027).
This temporary position assists with maintaining the enterprise network made up of routers, switches, firewalls, voice over IP (VOIP) telecom equipment and wireless equipment. This position monitors network performance and takes necessary corrective action to troubleshoot and perform problem resolution.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
-
Assist in maintaining network hardware such as routers, switches, telecom and wireless equipment.

Assist with the implementation of security devices, such as firewalls, intrusion detection, and prevention devices that include access control lists.

Support network administration through monitoring tools, protocol analyzers, and trending tools.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES CONTINUED
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
-
At least 18 years of age.
-
Currently enrolled as a full-time student in a two-year Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems, or a related discipline with at least one year completed; OR
-
Currently enrolled as a full-time student in a four-year Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems, an Engineering Accreditation Commission/ Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET) Computer Engineering program, or a related field with at least two years completed.

Minimum of a 2.5 grade point average (GPA).

Good verbal and written communication skills.
-
Proficient with personal computers and Microsoft Word and Outlook.

Perform other duties as assigned.
This position may be identified as a Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) related position, which may allow physical and/or logical access to Bulk Electric System (BES) cyber related assets or systems. This position may allow access to privileged information relating to such assets or systems. This position will be required to strictly adhere to all Basin Electric policies, procedures, and programs applicable to the Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) requirements.

Previous internship or relevant work experience.

Additional certifications or coursework in field of study.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS
This position requires frequent sitting, standing, and walking; and occasional reaching below and above shoulder level, use of keyboard/computer, bending, kneeling, lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds, and pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds. It also requires finger dexterity and hand coordination. It also requires the ability to develop plans, procedures, and goals; present information to others; and work under stress to complete projects within deadlines. This position uses small hand tools. This position requires finger dexterity, good hearing, and color vision, the ability to perform close work, and the ability to speak. The incumbent must be able to analyze data and reports, conduct research, and implement recommendations. This position occasionally works in conditions of dirt and dust, fumes, chemicals, extreme heat and cold, vibration, and noise. The person may be required to operate a motor vehicle or fly in Cooperative or commercial aircraft.
