Job Description:

POSITION PURPOSE

This position is located at our Headquarters building in Bismarck, ND.

This position is for the summer months of 2027 (approximately May 17, 2027 through August 20, 2027).

This temporary position assists the hardware staff in the development and implementation of an overall computer hardware program and assists in solving hardware-related problems at Basin Electric Power Cooperative (BEPC).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Assist in the development and implementation of an overall computer hardware program. Assist other members of the Information Technology (IT) staff in solving hardware-related problems, planning installation, and participating in ad hoc or permanent task forces as assigned.

  • Maintain inventory control of hardware devices, such as personal and portable computers, printers, handheld devices, monitors, scanners, etc.

  • Assist with the installation of various software packages; research/resolve any hardware or software conflicts; and set proper security permissions associated with the software.

  • Acquire and maintain current knowledge of relevant product offerings and support policies to provide technically accurate solutions to customers.

  • Participate in team projects that enhance the quality or efficiency of the desktop management team. Assist in special product related issues, as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Enrolled as a full-time student in a two-year Customer Support Program, Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems, or a related discipline with at least one year completed; or

  • Four-year Customer Support Program, Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems, or a related discipline with at least two years completed; or

  • Recently completed a program in the noted or a related discipline.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • A minimum of a 2.5 grade point average (GPA) is preferred.

  • Knowledge of common personal computer (PC) software and hardware (desktop and laptop computers), networks and related equipment, e-mail, telecommunication devices, mobile devices, internet browsers and the Internet is required.

  • Knowledge in PC software and hardware support and use of diagnostic methodologies to identify, resolve, and document cradle-to-grave information technology issues is also required.

  • The incumbent must have the ability to demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to prioritize work tasks are also required. The incumbent must be proficient with Microsoft Word and Outlook.

This position may be identified as a Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) related position, which may allow physical and/or logical access to Bulk Electric System (BES) cyber related assets or systems. This position may allow access to privileged information relating to such assets or systems. This position will be required to strictly adhere to all Basin Electric policies, procedures, and programs applicable to the Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) requirements.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous internship or relevant work experience.

  • Additional certifications or coursework in field of study.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

This position requires frequent sitting, standing, and walking; and occasional reaching below and above shoulder level, use of keyboard/computer, bending, kneeling, lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds, and pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds. It also requires finger dexterity and hand coordination. It also requires the ability to develop plans, procedures and goals; present information to others; and work under stress to complete projects within deadlines. This position uses small hand tools. This position requires finger dexterity, good hearing, and color vision, the ability to perform close work, and the ability to speak. The incumbent must be able to analyze data and reports, conduct research, and implement recommendations. This position occasionally works in conditions of dirt and dust, fumes, chemicals, extreme heat and cold, vibration, and noise. This position may be required to operate a motor vehicle or fly in Cooperative or commercial aircraft.
