Chenega Professional & Technical Services, LLC, a Chenega Professional Services company, is looking for a Network Engineer II who provides operational support, administration, monitoring, and troubleshooting for enterprise network infrastructure supporting the Department of the Interior (DOI) Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO).

This role is responsible for maintaining secure, reliable, and high-performing Local Area Networks (LANs), Wide Area Networks (WANs), VPN connectivity, network security devices, and supporting infrastructure across geographically dispersed data centers and customer environments .

Responsibilities

  • Configure, administer, monitor, and troubleshoot enterprise LAN, WAN, and VPN infrastructure supporting federal government customers.

  • Support routers, switches, load balancers, firewalls, SSL appliances, and remote access technologies.

  • Maintain site-to-site and client VPN connectivity while ensuring data integrity, confidentiality, and availability.

  • Analyze network performance, diagnose connectivity issues, and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime.

  • Support network security initiatives including firewall administration, intrusion detection, vulnerability remediation, and audit support.

  • Monitor network infrastructure utilizing enterprise monitoring and performance management tools.

  • Assist with implementation of network upgrades, technology refreshes, hardware replacements, and architectural enhancements.

  • Create and maintain network diagrams, operating procedures, configuration documentation, and technical reports.

  • Support incident, problem, and change management processes using ITIL best practices and ticketing systems.

  • Coordinate with telecommunications providers, vendors, and internal technical teams to resolve service disruptions and support new implementations.

  • Participate in scheduled maintenance windows, patching activities, and occasional after-hours support rotations.

  • Assist with disaster recovery planning, testing, and continuity of operations activities.

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • This position for full-time after-hours network engineering support.

  • Saturday Sunday: one out of three shifts covering 24 hours (Day, Swing, or Night)Monday Friday: three weekdays for one out of two shifts (Swing or Night)

  • Bachelors degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field. Relevant experience may be substituted for education.

  • 5 years of experience supporting enterprise network infrastructure.

  • Experience with LAN/WAN technologies, routing, switching, and network troubleshooting.

  • Experience configuring and supporting Cisco routers and switches.

  • Knowledge of routing protocols including BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP.

  • Experience supporting firewalls, ACLs, VPN tunnels, and network security controls.

  • Understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NAT, VLANs, and wireless networking concepts.

  • Experience working within change management and incident management processes.

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and customer service skills.

  • Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or higher certification.

  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP).

  • CompTIA Security+ certification.

  • Experience supporting federal government IT environments.

  • Experience supporting Palo Alto GlobalProtect

  • Experience configuring and supporting Fortigate

  • Familiarity with NIST, STIG, and federal cybersecurity requirements.

  • Experience with Azure, AWS, or hybrid cloud networking.

  • Experience supporting load balancers, SSL offloading technologies, and network monitoring tools.

  • Successfully pass background and drug screening

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of enterprise networking concepts including LAN/WAN, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, and switching.

  • Experience configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, and VPN technologies.

  • Knowledge of network security principles, access controls, firewall policies, intrusion detection/prevention, and vulnerability remediation.

  • Ability to analyze network performance, identify root causes of connectivity issues, and implement effective solutions.

  • Experience with network monitoring, incident management, change management, and IT service management processes.

  • Strong technical documentation skills, including development of network diagrams, procedures, and configuration standards.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical teams and provide customer-focused support.

Estimated Salary/Wage

USD $90,000.00/Yr. Up to USD $105,000.00/Yr.
