Full job description
Commercial Lines Insurance Placement Specialist
A well-established, member-owned insurance agency network is seeking a Commercial Lines Placement Specialist to join its close-knit team. Founded in 1995, the organization supports hundreds of independent insurance agents by providing access to additional insurance markets, carrier partnerships, brokerage resources, and marketing support. With more than 50 member agencies and a substantial presence throughout Georgia and the Southeast, the organization has built a strong reputation for helping independent agencies compete and grow. This is a remote position for a candidate based in the Southeast within driving distance of Atlanta, with regular travel to member agencies and occasional in-person meetings. The organization offers a collaborative, service-oriented culture where success is measured by responsiveness, relationship building, and helping member agencies find solutions for complex commercial risks rather than meeting individual sales quotas.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a trusted placement resource for independent insurance agencies, identifying appropriate carriers, managing general agents (MGAs), and wholesale brokers for risks that cannot be placed through an agency's existing markets.
- Review and qualify commercial insurance submissions, matching accounts to markets based on underwriting appetite, coverage requirements, risk characteristics, and pricing objectives.
- Develop placement strategies for new business, renewals, specialty accounts, and challenging risks across Property, General Liability, Workers' Compensation, Commercial Auto, Umbrella, and Professional Liability.
- Negotiate coverage terms and placement options directly with underwriters and wholesale partners to secure appropriate solutions for member agencies.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with carriers, MGAs, wholesale brokers, and agency owners to strengthen market access and facilitate efficient communication.
- Advise and educate member agents on coverage enhancements, submission quality, risk presentation, underwriting expectations, and changing market conditions.
- Monitor carrier appetite, underwriting guidelines, and industry trends to identify new placement opportunities and communicate relevant updates to member agencies.
- Maintain accurate records of submissions, carrier interactions, placement outcomes, premium activity, and other relevant performance metrics.
- Collaborate with leadership and internal colleagues on carrier partnerships, network initiatives, agency engagement, and ongoing service improvements.
- Learn directly from experienced senior brokers to ensure continuity of market knowledge and relationships, with the opportunity to develop into the network's lead placement resource.
- Potentially expand responsibilities over time to include agency-facing marketing, visiting member agencies, presenting available resources, and supporting agent education and partner initiatives.
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of commercial lines insurance placement experience involving multiple carriers, with a background on the independent agency side strongly preferred.
- Active Property and Casualty (P&C) insurance license.
- Working knowledge of core commercial lines, including Property, General Liability, Workers' Compensation, Commercial Auto, Umbrella, and Professional Liability.
- Must reside in the Southeast within driving distance of Atlanta and be comfortable with regular travel to member agencies, primarily throughout Georgia, as well as occasional meetings in the Atlanta area.
