Full job description

The Colorado Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) has four major operational divisions: Army National Guard, Air National Guard, Civil Air Patrol, and Veterans Affairs. These divisions utilize state and federal resources to provide our communities, state, and nation with a ready military force for national defense and state emergency response as well as providing assistance to our Colorado veterans.

DMVA also strives to assist employees in achieving a healthy work/life balance by offering compressed work weeks, on-site fitness facilities, free parking, and a variety of training opportunities!This position is part of our Air National Guard Civil Engineering unit and is responsible for managing, advocating for, planning, and directing the work of the Pavement and Grounds Shop, which consists of eight employees. The primary functions of the Pavement and Grounds Shop include the following:

  • Operating construction and specialized highway maintenance equipment;
  • Patching roads, parking areas, and airfield ramps/runways with asphalt or concrete material;
  • Performing snow removal and cutting grass;
  • Applying pesticides;
  • Constructing and repairing security fencing, signs, and striping of parking areas;
  • Assisting with other departmental needs such as structural trades, high voltage and industrial control systems;
  • Maintaining equipment and supplies;
  • Repairing and maintaining vehicles; and
  • Provides all previously mentioned facility maintenance support to GSU's as well, Greeley Air National Guard Station and Fort Carson Airburst Range.

Supervisory responsibilities include:

  • Planning and writing yearly performance goals for employees to include coaching and feedback;
  • Establishing working hours and work unit priorities and duties;
  • Scheduling and monitoring work products with a variety of internal entities to include air traffic control, airfield management, personnel, etc.;
  • Hiring and training new hires as well as training existing employees on new systems and processes;
  • Tracking and providing of work hours, leave, training, safety, and licensing of subordinates;
  • Issuing corrective actions and performance improvement plans when needed;
  • Recommending disciplinary actions;
  • Contributing to employee welfare as well as participation in supervisory committees and meetings; and
  • Performing the same work when short-handed or business needs dictate.

Class Code & Classification Description: D7D3XX Transportation Maintenance III

Minimum Qualifications: Experience Only:• Five (5) years of relevant experience in facility maintenance, trades work, or grounds and pavement environment, two (2) of supervisory experience in grounds and pavement environment equivalent to the level of Transportation Maintenance II.

  • One year experience operating heavy construction equipment such as front-end loader (1.5 yards or larger), bulldozer, road grader, or other heavy mobile equipment.

  • Must possess a valid Commercial Driver License class B or higher with proper endorsements (please attach a copy of your license to your on-line application).

  • Must be able to work rotating shift assignments, overtime, and on-call as needed.

  • Must be able to communicate via radio with air traffic control tower while on the flight line.

  • Must be willing to perform all duties of subordinates as needed.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be able to gain and maintain a security clearance within six months of employment.
  • Employment is conditional based upon ability to maintain security clearance for duration of employment.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal history background check prior to employment commencing.
  • Must be willing to submit to random drug and alcohol testing as required.
