Position Summary:

The Process Manager IPS/Green Tube leads the safe and efficient flow of tubular products through the Internal Process Storage (IPS) and Green Tube areas. This role manages material flow, crane and storage capacity, inventory accuracy, IPS expansion readiness, and continuous improvement in partnership with Hot Mill and downstream operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and balance material flow between the Hot Mill and downstream lines to prevent starvation and bay capacity constraints.

  • Maintain capacity models for the IPS bay and cranes, and use operating data to evaluate product mix, new lines, and investment needs.

  • Identify constraints across cranes, Heat Treatment, Full Body UT, and Finishing Floors and lead actions to improve throughput.

  • Establish dispatch rules, crane priorities, shift plans, and maintenance coordination, including two cranes operating on one runway.

  • Maintain storage and slotting strategies that reduce travel and rehandling.

  • Ensure accurate container tracking and inventory records while managing bay fill levels against targets.

  • Lead operational readiness for the IPS expansion, including layout, crane travel, new line interfaces, dispatch rules, standard work, and training.

  • Collaborate with third party involved in model to automate and minimize touches of containers in IPS (example: Jannus automation)

  • Define product routing requirements, including Full Body UT, and evaluate the impact on crane workload and capacity.

  • Own IPS performance measures, including output, line starvation, blocked time, crane utilization, rehandling, bay fill, inventory accuracy, damage, and safety.

  • Lead material-flow reviews, resolve operating priorities, and drive root-cause analysis and continuous improvement.

  • Ensure safe crane and container handling and compliance with plant safety, environmental, and housekeeping standards.

  • Lead, coach, and develop employees supporting IPS and Green Tube operations.

Requirements:

  • at least 5 years of experience in manufacturing, material flow, production planning, logistics, or operations within a steel, tubular, or heavy industrial environment.

  • Experience with crane operations, material handling, storage systems, or high-volume work-in-process inventory is preferred.

  • Ability to analyze capacity, cycle time, equipment utilization, production flow, and operating constraints.

  • Experience developing operating rules, shift plans, routing strategies, standard work, or process controls.

  • Demonstrated leadership, problem-solving, continuous improvement, and cross-functional coordination skills.

  • Working knowledge of industrial safety, environmental requirements, and safe material-handling practices.

  • Proficiency with production, inventory, planning, reporting, or data-analysis systems.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Supply Chain, Business, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent relevant experience may be considered.Competency Summary:
